Ashran is just mindless aoe fest. Me I would split the action to avoid the aoe fest. Instead of just one lane I would split it to capturing 3 capture points in the middle, another 2 after, then a final capture points.



Your team has to capture the middle 3

Then your team need capture the next 2

Then after your team dominates/captures the last single point your team wins.

Your team can push back and recapture capturable points. But you have to recapture the groups of capturable points in the reverse order you lost.

Winning after capturing the last point makes it so the enemy team dont just get endlessly farmed for 10 minutes.

I always queue for epic BGs in a premade and on Ashran we almost always backdoor (run straight to the final boss and kill, ignoring the objectives). But Savage Alliance Slayers apparently self-destructed over the past month (there was a lot of drama pings happening on discord so I muted, but apparently the ingame community only has like 10 people left) so I need to find another Horde epic BG community.

As for playing epic BG Ashran straight, I think a big issue is that the map is too small compared to AV. In AV it takes five minutes to run from the Horde base to the Alliance base while mounted, whereas in Ashran it takes one minute. Both maps have items that let you hearth back to base, but on Alterac Valley the long travel time means that if the enemy faction is beelining straight for your commander, you have enough time to hearth back and set up defenses, whereas that is not the case in Ashran. By the time people hear that a backdoor is happening and start hearthing back, the invaders are either already inside the compound and have the commander down to half health.

It was a world PvP zone that was actually well designed at first. It was never really meant to be a BG map. The side objectives mattered and the buffs they gave were useful. Then they decided to make some "upgrades" and it became crap. I was working through getting all of the titles when it happened. Suddenly PvP outside of just rushing the mid and taking each point was none existent. No longer did we race around the track or go get the ogre king.

Its really no wonder its still doing badly. They made all of the choices meaningless. I mention that because how you want them to matter is how it originally functioned.

Yeah, there need to be quests that reward you for killing Titarus, Cat boss, collecting flowers and so forth, so that new players know about these and don't just go join the mindless fight in middle.

Slightly off topic, but it's actually bonkers how many of the BG communities have imploded this year. Alliance lost like two groups this year too.

Ashran was always too complex for the general player to grasp.
It was a great bg but not suitable for the playerbase sadly.

Wintergrasp was like the stretch of complexity (smirk) the average player could handle.

The melee buff needs to be changed so it only works on a base you control / are contesting. This would pretty much destroy backdoor eligibility and promote swing fights that chase the road. They also need to add a way to replenish reinforcements, maybe with artifact turnins. Randoms are entry level pvp and I think its wrong to be elitist and blame game the people who want to farm frags all game, but it would be nice if their minor contribution did help the main group somewhat.

Most players don't even use the powerups found across the map, songflower is popular, tubers are even better but are seldom used, I can't recall the last time I've seen a player use the webs, the earth shield is nerfed but still worth grabbing especially if you're defending SS, the dark revive is really strong but still unknown to many.

I think the AA needs to go and solar sphere needs to be treated like the bg blitz bases where after capping it its locked to a faction for 5-10 minutes. It would be interesting to see how the meta shifts and teams fragment to grab the buff when it is about to fall.

All epic bgs are mindless aoe fests.

On a melee spec, most of the time I just hang back and let the ranged dps and the healers do the fighting, cause this is their element. If I go attack, I'll just get nuked in 3 seconds.

In Trashran, I just go to the solar sphere, as it's the only place you can have some decent engagements.
