You seem to think this is some sort of treachery.

You're sitting in a politics thread, crying about... tourism.
Why do you people consistently fail at this very, very simple concept?

In your example, you helped someone else's local economy. Ok fine. However the entirety of that money remained in that local economy.

If you travel to see Taylor Swift, you're giving some money to someone else's local economy and giving some money to an extremely wealthy person who then removes that money entirely from both your local economy and the local economy from which you travelled to. That is NOT a boon.

    And money is politics.

You're whining about tourism. You're whining about basic commerce... all because you hate Taylor Fucking Swift.

If I travel to see Ronaldo or Messi play, they get a lot of that money. The same goes if I watch them from my couch. This didn't upset you, even though both are billionaires, or damn near. So, all of this is about your hatred for one specific woman. Now, one may speculate as to the exact cause for you to specifically single her out for that hatred. One would think that you just hated rich people, but you held no such ire towards those two men.

Cities like tourism, as do most local businesses. There's some cities that are designed for, and rely almost exclusively on tourism. They don't care if some star doesn't keep all their money stored in a shed down the street, they want a piece of the pie. Taylor Swift's income is going to someone else's local economy. So, you have nothing to whine about. The irony is that you even pointed to wanting to go see Death Angel, but they will also take their money, and leave.

By your weird ass argument, you don't want people to travel anywhere to spend money, and they should keep it all locally.

I'm cool with saying money is politics, and Taylor Swift is using her power and influence to get people to vote, and endorsed Harris. She has even made political donations in the past.

I am not sure why you hate Taylor Swift so much, I am no fan by the way but this is not how economics work. The local economy doesn't just stay local when you buy a big mac at McDonalds a lot of it isn't staying local same goes for the Exxon Mobil gas station, the Hilton hotel etc. The reason an event regardless of who is heading it is considered a boon is because it bring money that would otherwise not come to a place. If Taylor Swift doesn't come to a town they get nothing if she comes it's a net positive because it's money that would never go there otherwise.

This isn't economics it's basic common sense, that's the reason states and countries fight for certain big events especially if it doesn't involve building new venues (aka Olympics). I really don't see how you can view this as a negative in any way, at the end of the day it's additional money to places that would get Zero without Switft.

I recall several countries practically begging for her to add them to her tour. She's turned into quite the phenom. Or to quote myself in the more appropriate thread:

Looks like we're back to handwaving the billionaire part. Weird.

Ronaldo and Messi get the same amount of money regardless if you show up or not. However, you should definitely NOT go see Ronaldo because that would mean travelling to a terrorist state that causes a lot of problems in the world. Taylor Swift is not only wealthy but also massively marketed. Neither Messi or Ronaldo get the same amount of marketing. If there was a male pop musician that was the equivalent of her I'd treat him just as poorly. But there isn't.

Tourism is actually important. Its better to eliminate the billionaire leech out of the equation if possible.

Keeping your money local is still important. Not sure why you're against this.

You are the one handwaving billionaires. If you had the same amount of vitriol towards them, as you did Swift, then at least it would make some sense. Then, it would mean you just hated rich people. it would be weird, but at least somewhat consistent.

Ronaldo and Messi are monstrous celebrities, and have huge endorsement deals, with tons of marketing. They each have millions of followers on social media, with Ronaldo being the most on Instagram, and Messi being the next most. I specifically pointed to those two, because they are meteoric stars who are known around the world. In what cave do you live in, that you didn't know that Ronaldo and Messi were massively marketed? People pay a ton of money to go see them.

I'm fine with keeping money locally. be my guest. Don't ever eat at any chain restaurant, or buy anything boxed packaged outside of your county. Of course, that would make your grocery store trips a bit tricky. Oh, and don't order anything online, we'd hate to see you send that money away.

It doesn't bother me that you spend money locally. it does bother you when people are tourists. This has a "They're taking our Jobs!" feel, but only directed at one person/gender.

I dare say you hate Taylor Swift as much as Trump does. It's strange company you choose to keep.

On a topical note, CNN has a picture of Trump shaking hands with a pro-slavery self-professed Nazi. I wonder how well that will go over.

    Hey here’s a thought.

If people want to rant for 10 pages about the economics of tailor swift, go start a tailor swift thread.

I have a post history. You're more than welcome to read it. Use it against me if you like. You're not going to find what you think you're going to find though.

Yes, I'm aware that they're bigly. Weird that you handwaved the part about Ronaldo playing for a terrorist state though. I would avoid giving him any money. However its a mistake to equate how any athlete makes their wealth with how a musician makes their wealth.

Its almost like the world is very complicated and its very hard to keep your money away from shitty people. However some shitty people are easier to avoid than other shitty people. My suggestion is to take the path of least resistance.

Again I have a post history.

I dare say I hate Trump a lot more. They're both well marketed billionaires who do little for society.

I'll just go ahead and use the comments from this thread, over the past several pages. There's no sense in putting too much effort into something that is so obvious. I haven't seen this much misdirected hatred at a specific individual in a long time. Just to make you happy, I'm going to go out to lunch, today, and spend my money at a national chain, and one that isn't even franchised locally. Do you have any recommendations?

Cities love when major attractions come to town, especially when it doesn't require infrastructure changes. Economists point out the benefits. Some countries rely almost solely on it. My guess is that they know more than some dude who apparently lives in/near San Francisco (Death Angel local boys), and who admitted he doesn't even make much of a living. I'm guessing they have figured out something that you have yet to grab onto.

Meanwhile, we see the GOP going radio silent, as a result of the Robinson fallout. they had their initial burst, but now they are in hiding. I sure hope enterprising journalists manage to track some down in order to ask their opinions on the matter. The Sunday talk shows are going to be awkward.

Actually people keep on maintaining this delusion that Taylor Swift causes economic benefits when she actually does not. I'm trying to put in the minimum amount of effort to dissuade people of this. Also eat at a local restaurant. Its better for you and the economy.

You can visit other areas. Try to avoid giving money to the billionaire leech in the process.

I mean, people provided data to back it up.

I'm thinking I'll grab me some Starbuck's (I always have to wonder if the apostrophe is needed), and maybe some Chipotle. That way, my money heads to Denver and Seattle. The locals there will be happy. I may opt for Shake Shack, because it would mean having to travel a greater distance away from home or work.

Maybe if the Democrats win in North Carolina, I'll make sure to go to the beach next Summer. I have never been to the Outer Banks, but I hear good things. Personally, I think more people should make a point to spend their tourist dollars in other states that don't elect self-professed Nazis. But, we'll have to see what NC does in November.

They keep providing data about how one specific location made some money. That money could be reused elsewhere.

Suit yourself. Sounds like a bad idea.

That's all I needed to see. I'm definitely going to make sure to spend my tourist dollars in the coming years in states that don't vote for slavery-supporting Nazis like Mark Robinson and Donald Trump. Remember, Trump said a self-professed Nazi is even better than MLK Jr. I'll also make sure to stay at national chain hotels that did not donate to Republicans.

Speaking of Taylor Swift, it's apparently bigly yuge news over at Fox that a poll showed Trump with a higher favorability than Swift. In the poll, Trump score higher in favorability (47% to 44%), but also much, much higher in unfavorability (51% to 34%).

This is not really a surprise, since the poll was taken in the aftermath of Trump's drubbing at the debate, Swift's subsequent endorsement of Kamala Harris, and then Donnie's nerd-rage "I H8 U!" tweet. Republicans, having received their marching orders, did not disappoint in responding against the childless cat lady.

In fact, the only real news here is the sad fact that Fox News thinks this is newsworthy.

They keep providing the exact same example without realizing what it means. If you give money to one specific area, that means you’re also denying that money to something else. Since there’s a billionaire leech somewhere in this equation I would suggest trying to avoid the leech. Funny thing about music is that’s very easy to avoid giving a musician money if you don’t like them. I don’t like Jeff Bezos but it’s pretty hard to avoid giving him money.

Now this is an actually good idea. Don’t give money to shit bird locations and also shit bird hotels. Also don’t give money to Starbucks, Shake Shack, Ronaldo or Taylor Swift.

Beside this being sad maybe I am missing some kind of 4D chess move here, how does this help Trump get more votes? do they think attacking Swift is going to get more people behind Trump?
