As a broader note on conspiracies, if you ever look into any government conspiracy that was "proven" to be true it's only ever like one or maybe two levels of subterfuge deep and has very clear and concise goals that are obvious at even a glance. A good example of this is I saw a bunch of MAGAts on Twitter insisting that the head of FEMA admitted to misusing funds by spending them on illegal immigrants instead of disaster relief. When asked for proof, one of them linked an article that read, "Mayorkas says that FEMA, which has spent nearly a billion dollars settling migrants, does not have enough money for hurricane season."

Because they apparently could not differentiate between an editorial comment and a direct quote.

A story getting a lot of buzz claims Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is implying Democrats caused Hurricane Helene to harm Republicans.

The NYTimes specifically and directly refutes most of Trump's random claims. Problem is, Trump is lying faster than anyone can keep up. That's the plan, I'm guessing, but at some point he's going to run out of ideas to make up.

False. Funding for migrant shelters did not amount to “billions of dollars,” nor did it deplete the coffers of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. And no disaster funding has been spent on those shelters.

FEMA, like all other federal agencies, receives funding from Congress for specific functions. Its disaster relief fund received almost $36 billion in funding for the 2024 fiscal year, which ended in September. Outside that fund, FEMA also received more than $5 billion for its National Flood Insurance Program; more than $1.5 billion for personnel, procurement and facilities; and almost $4 billion for federal grant programs it administers.

Mr. Trump’s allies have specifically focused on one of those initiatives, the Shelter and Services Program. Created in 2023 by Congress, the program doles out grants to groups and localities that provide shelter and other services to migrants released from the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, which FEMA is a part of. Its $650 million in funding for the 2024 fiscal year came from Customs and Border Protection’s budget. That amount is equal to less than 2 percent of the disaster relief funding and even less compared with FEMA’s total funding for that fiscal year.

In other words, the shelter program and the disaster relief fund have two separate streams of funding. A spokeswoman from FEMA also said the Biden administration has never diverted any disaster relief funding for migrant shelters or any other purpose, adding that the claims from Mr. Trump and others are “completely false.”

It should alarm people that Trump is making up random numbers, proving he knows nothing about a WH dept he used to be in charge of. I will respond. This is all very dangerous.

Trump is openly endangering groups and spouting open racism, xenophobia, anti-immigration; whatever you want to call it. I could give an example if said about one group (hint, shit going down in Middle East) to direct anger at anyone that is their fault they are stealing funds from FEMA. Which again is completely false.

But hey! Look Projection! DHS notified Congress earlier this month of the plan, which would siphon $155 million from FEMA’s disaster fund to go toward facilities to hold immigration proceedings.. An oh btw in my post I mentioned Puerto Rico and this article says that they will lose $403 million, after of course suffering a hurricane.

So if you want to talk about diverting funds, Trump has nothing to stand on. Start blaming any group and trying to divide people is some bullshit. Once again, that is Republicans strategy of divide and conquer these days. Once more projection since they always think some marginalized group has all the power in our country.
