I was hoping he would go to the Raiders, but the Steelers were probably Wilson's only option.

Arthur Smith and Russell Wilson is a really odd combination though. Doesn't his offense use the middle of the field a lot?

Wil Lutz signing with the Jags to replace McManus is kind of funny. Even better than Denver traded for him last year. This team is great at wasting draft picks.

Cousins to the Falcons too. Now the Vikings just need to draft McCarthy and my guess would be correct.

Damn Cousins actually left. Apparently the Vikings made a go at him at the last minute but the Falcons were willing to back up the truck.

Meanwhile Green Bay finally gives up on Bakhtiari's knee and also stole Josh Jacobs to replace Aaron Jones. I think the shocker there is he's replacing Jones not Dillon, but Jones has had injury issues. Jacobs and Dillon are probably an upgrade over Jones and Dillon the last few years.

If this is what we end up with from Free Agency I'll be satisfied. You don't find OLinemen in free agency and we know they'll burn their first round pick on a secondary guy for the new DC.

Raiders building a nasty D-Line signing Christian Wilkins to a big money (4 year, 110 mil, 84.75 guaranteed) deal.

Meanwhile AOC has competition for backup spot in the form of everyone's favourite rags to riches story, Gardner Minshew.

2 year, $25m for Minshew. I was hoping Denver would go after him so I don't have to watch Stidham completely miss his targets, but that's a little expensive for what he is.

Denver signed the Dolphins backup safety to a 3 year, $20m deal for some reason I don't understand. Probably means all of the safeties George Paton has drafted will continue to not see the field. It's actually impressive how many draft picks that guy has wasted on DBs.

    OR IS HE?!

(he's apparently staying with Denver on a 2yr deal)

Patriots have been surprisingly quiet so far. Only signed RB Antonio Gibson on a modest deal. Definitely waiting for a shoe or 2 to drop.

Packers landed McKinney as well, crazy great Free Agency. I lamented at the end of that 49ers game last season that the team felt content to be an eternal also-ran in the NFC but these are the moves of a team that knows the window is wide open and the 49ers will never be more beatable after that heartbreaker.

Sad that we lost McKinney though. Getting Runyan is nice, the Giants should be completely focused on fixing their offensive line this year. It was so bad last year that nothing else mattered at all.
Those numbers aren't terrible considering whos QB. I don't view it as a terrible signing as long as Hurts doesn't stink it up again.

Ekeler to the commies. Surprised to see the top backs pretty much go 1, 2, 3 in FA (well technically not FA, just not legal tampering period).

Seahawks not bringing back bobby, alright fine... as long as the sign Brooks.

Then they let Brooks go to the Dolphins for 12m/yr.

Sub optimal unless they can get Patrick Queen.

Between Bourne and Hunter Henry being back and Rhamondre Stevenson still in the backfield, we have at least some barebones competency at the skill positions. We need to build on this though. Competency at the level we have resigned so far got us absolutely nowhere last season.

What we need is a true difference maker at WR. Someone that teams have to game plan against that allows these complimentary pieces to do their job.

I don't think there's any receivers like that in Free Agency so this will need to come from the draft.

Patriots have been heavily linked to Calvin Ridley, but he's not an X reciever which is what we need. He'd just compete with Kendrick Bourne for the Z snaps, or be ill used just like he was in Jacksonville last season.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I hate the fit for Ridley on the Patriots, especially with Bourne back under contract.

EDIT: One of the beat writers in NL that I trust mentions that NE might go for more condensed looks with the receivers closer to the formation, reducing the need for a true X receiver and that NE might also just use Bourne and Ridley interchangeably and move both around a lot to create the look they want.

NE Beat writers doing what they can to keep my spirits up. <3
What about Troy Franklin from Oregon?

Cushenberry getting a 4 year, $50m and $26m guaranteed is kind of crazy for someone that was horrible for 3 years then better, but still the main reason the run game was awful in his contract year.

There's MHJ and Nabers and then a group of like 5? WR just below that, that are still really really good. Franklin is in that group. If he;s still available when Patriots pick in 2nd round they will have to seriously consider it.

And that has just become slightly more likely, cause the Patriots just re-signed Mike Onwenu for their Oline. IF they can somehow somewhere find a decent guy to play left tackle, then getting a WR at pick 34 just gets that much more likely.

Free Agency basically has no left tackles though, unless you settle for a guy like Tyron Smith with an injury history a mile long.

For now I'd still rather the Patriots draft OT in the 2nd round and a WR in the 3rd. Franklin is long gone by then though.

Patriots signing QB Jacoby Brissett for 1 year $8M. That's a fucking steal.

Can't believe how competent the Patriots have handled things so far. Re-signed who they needed to re-sign (except Dugger, but he's tagged), brought in OT depth we needed. Only thing really lacking right now is WR. But with the draft being what it is I am perfectly fine with slow playing that. There's been no movement in that market at all yet this Tampering period.

Did not expect this at all.

    - - - Updated - - -

Drat, no. Forgot one thing. We need to extend DT Christian Barmore. Him and Dugger are the future leaders on the defense. He needs a deal done.

Other than that, very impressed with what the Patriots have done.

Brissett continuing his trend of being the one year bridge guy for a team with a young QB. The modern-day Josh McCown.

Winston to the Browns seems like a good fit for their QB room. They just need to bring Roethlisberger out of retirement to really complete it.

Ravens signing Henry is interesting, with all their RB injuries the past few years, they must be hoping he can stay healthier.

Even if healthy they will forget their running game exists and try to pass every down in a playoff game and lose. As per tradition.
