Why the fuck was this post hijacked by some weirdo who turned it into a discussion about having various app stores? Why do mods not ban shit like this? This is why MMO-Champ discussions are ridiculous. This is why the Reddit format is superior; if there's one asshole who won't get over his ridiculous point, at least you can just close his entire worthless thought process in one click. His entire problem is that they used the word "downloading"; that's why various people have lost time and energy, because this Sheldon Cooper doesn't like that Blizzard used the word "downloading" and wants to prove that the app can still be "downloaded" and Blizzard can't do anything about it. It doesn't matter to him that, just because you can find a place to download it, doesn't mean anything will actually work because the app will no longer be "on" on Blizzard's side. He still wants to turn it into a discussion about how he can prove that you can still "download" it and therefore Blizzard made a serious faux pas in their statement.

Does it add anything to the discussion? Does it contribute anything to the point of the post? Does any of it actually matter? No to everything. So why in the world does he care so much about making these points? Is it trolling, or something in his head? I sincerely can't understand.

This discussion doesn't end for him until Blizzard retracts the statement and comes back and says "We're sorry for saying you can't 'download' it, we can't stop the possibility that it may still be downloadable somewhere on the internet, thank you Zardas for clearing up that error."

wait, I didnt even know that app still existed lol. Btw third party websites to download APK are only useful to get apps that are not availiable on your region (japan/CN gacha games ect), there is absolutely no reason to download an app on a apk website if it's availiable on the google/apple store

Why does blizzard rely on you having a web browser, instead of making one themselves? Why does blizzard rely on you having a computer from another company, instead of making PC's themselves.

That's nowhere near the same thing : we are simply speaking about setting up a repo with the code of this "companion app" and a link on their website to download its content, then a simple checkup on the software itself to verify that the version used is up to date (and, if not, just a simple call to the endpoint to get the updated code).

My dude, it's a forum, it's meant to have discussions. Do you want the thread to simply be people acknowledging the news with a "ok" ? I was merely wondering that stuff about the download, I don't see why everyone would get so upset or make such a fuss about it, it's not big deal.

Let's return to discussing the topic at hand, that being the retirement of the WoW Companion App, and drop the unrelated arguments. So Blizzard themselves gave the apk to google and apple to put on their store ? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but why give it to those two companies instead of listing it directly on Blizz official website ? Especially since, as far as I know, you need a google or an apple account to use these two stores. Like, why promote two potential concurrent companies as "official sources" of your own game when you could assume this position yourself ?

Like I said earlier, this thread is literally twilight zone levels of weird. Zardas' posts functionally have not one fucking thing to do with the WoW companion app in them, and are trying to invoke a "discussion" (read: weird frivolous argument) about the placement of app stores other than the default one that, by his own example, have less than 2% of the market (of which at least the majority probably ALSO still use play store, and which remains completely irrelevant in the discussion of an app that literally will not work anymore because the servers that make it function will not exist).

Even at the very most basic level, taken with the most extreme best possible view of the argument he makes, he's made like, 15 or 20 posts arguing over what is functionally a semantic argument over the employment of the word "download" in a use case that is exceptionally clear contextually. It's insanely weird behavior, so much so that we are still discussing it despite having literally nothing to do with the topic of the thread - it's that curious, probably more interesting in and of itself than the closure of the companion app in the first place!

I mean its one thing for like a game for example. If nintendo shut down their online service and was like "You can't get these again" ..like yes I can emulation is easy and WIDELY available. But this is a damned app that blizzard runs. If blizzard wants to shutter the service they are well within their right to. Yes you can just sit there have the app on your phone and be like "Oh look i have it" but it wont do anything except take up space

The whole thing of removing software means nothing on things that are basically services. If we lived in a Bizzaro world where McDonalds went under there is no point for the McDonalds app because the restaurant no longer exists. We cannot get deals for food that isn't there.

It was, yeah. The lack of any mission system in Dragonflight and the upcoming expansion is probably one reason of many why it's being discontinued.

It's useless without addons anyway. It was Blizzards' attempt to make "Pay 15$ of sub fee to play cheap mobile game" thing. It didn't work. Especially after Legion, where they decided to force player to grind table resources in game and were making this process less and less effective in every subsequent xpack. Why should I grind some resources in game to play time-gated offline mini-game then, if I can grind gold directly? Because I'm that mini-game's addict? Nope.

Sad to see the WoW Companion App retiring. It was a great tool for managing missions and checking on-world events on the go. Hopefully, Blizzard will integrate these features into the main game soon.
