That comparison makes no sense because you’re already paying for Netflix; there shouldn’t be ads after that and that’s a problem with Netflix. Fuck em.
But with YouTube, you’re not paying for anything by default so you should at least be made to watch ads as a fee. Which is really harmless.
You pay for cable, and there's commercials on cable. Nothing about what you're claiming makes any sense.
No, it takes up my time. My time is not without value. But with YouTube, you’re not paying for anything by default so you should at least be made to watch ads as a fee. Which is really harmless.
And why should anyone be "made" to watch ads? You still can't explain that. It's just weird dystopian bullshit that you somehow think makes any sense.
Nor is Youtube left hanging. Part of their business model involves collecting user data and selling that to third parties.

But those TV shows were created for a TV station, with ads practically baked into them. They very specifically have ad breaks. Even though I pay my cable bill. If I'm only paying Netflix, who remove those ads, are they taking money from me that should go elsewhere?
Should I be forced to watch ads that are just 4 minutes long music videos so that I can watch the 90 second video I actually wanted to watch? But with YouTube, you’re not paying for anything by default so you should at least be made to watch ads as a fee. Which is really harmless.
Why'd you move goalposts to the creators rather than Youtube?
Also, I support creators more directly. For example, my Nebula subscription.
But again; why should people be forced to watch ads? You're dodging that question, I have to assume because you know you don't have an actual answer.

Anyone else getting so fed up with Youtube/Twitch ads that they're starting to dislike or even hate the products they're being advertised? This whole advertising model might not have the effect advertisers are hoping for.
I'm never buying Premium or Turbo, either.
My tolerance with ads is good, matter of fact untill 2 years ago or so i didn't even bothered installing an ad blocker. Youtube videos always allowed you to skipp the ad so, all was ok. This untill i installed Malewarebytes, as soon i installed the browser guard of Malewarebytes it installed an ad blocker, i wasn't aware of it.
Last January the SSD on my secondary computer died, i bought a brand new m.2 ssd for my main computer, and the ssd i had to boot reverted to my secondary computer. I was only after installing the SO i realised how bad youtube is nowadays. " ads at the beggining of each video we play, and one is never skippable, sometimes we get ads in the middle of the video too, just disgusting. Its even worst for me because i only have 30GB of internet per month, so i installed ublock, and did the same on my secondary computer.
Has i said in the beggining, my ad tolerance is good, but that doesn't mean they can abuse. If they find a way to block ad blockers, i might just stop using youtube, that means they deserved.

Also, most ads are not even intended to be watched in my country, if i was an advertiser i would be mad if i discovered that they just spamming ads to people that definitively aren't the targets of their product.

Words to live by.
this to me is a huge failing of advertising, and the promise suggested by data collection and algorithms that track your viewing habits.
we've been told for literally decades that the whole data collection system is there to 'cater ads that are relevant to you' - and i've never understood why people freak out about that, because quite frankly if youtube showed ads for things i was interested in, regardless of my intent to purchase them or not, i'd end up watching ads pretty frequently.
in a fantasy world where all my youtube ads are for sci-fi shows or 80s style toy commercials or letting me know about a promotion being run by my favorite eateries or stores, fuck it i'd let every youtube ad run in its entirety.
but for the last 15 years i'm just spammed by ads for liberty mutual or purdue university, and on top of the ear-wormy jingle bullshit there's the utter lack of relevance to me.
what the fuck are they doing with all this data that is supposedly being used to target ads to me? seems like it's a lot of hype for me to end up just watching network commercials that operate on the makeup shotgun being set to 'whore'.
So I got some of those weird server side ads 2 days ago but I'm not getting them anymore.
Did they stop pushing them or did ublock get updated?
"People with adblocks should go to jail" sure is one of the takes of all time.
Not using adblock is like asking to get fucked on the internet. At this point it's too late, there will always be people like me who refuse stop using it, after years of predatory and beyond annoying adds. Even if there's regulation now, and adds are reigned in, the damage is done and hate will live on in our memories.
Death to adds, decorpo the web!
I stopped watching TV nearly entirely about a few decades ago. Ads, ads, ads and content was low tier. I probably turn on TV perhaps once a year or something.
I have also almost entirely stopped using youtube. I could watch random cat videos and whatever it spewed out at me, but not if there are ads. All it took was when I was about to go to youtube to stop think for a moment, "do I really need to see this?". The answer was "no" nearly every time and when it wasn't, I'm able to find that information elsewhere.
Youtube is slightly harder to get rid of than TV. A lot of stuff goes to youtube. Since this is a gaming site, I'll use gaming examples such as guides and other information.
Luckily most of this information is available elsewhere and I don't like trying to find correct spot on videos anyway.
At this time, my view on youtube is that I will watch a video with ads, but only if absolutely necessary. This has not yet been the case for nearly a year.
Leaving behind youtube has been a good choice, I think. I recommend people to try it and see if you can do it.
Lately i've started leaving streams on Twitch once I get hit with the 45s - 2m long ad breaks. I just find another streamer to watch until the next ad break.
