I hate the theme and I hate the skins. Seems okay to skip the premium for this season.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

Noone ever should buy a premiumpass. These people are the reason this and many other modern games suck.

It's because big devs are too afraid to take risks. Has nothing to do with the optional spending habits of a relative few.

That "optional" spending habit of a "relative few" is the sole reason why Blizzard got away with Overwatch 2 in its entirety.

Just another label for people to hate on blindly and blame for their own negativity honestly at this point.

There are plenty of amazing games that are coming out and have come out recently without battle passes, there's absolutely no reason for you to be anywhere near a battle pass if you dislike them.

Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 is at a point now where there's absolutely no need to buy battle passes. It's only ever cosmetic rewards and even with the free tracks you still get currency to buy older overwatch 1 cosmetics that are still great. The game is completely free overall and if you enjoy the game play you can get hours upon hours of entertainment without ever spending a dime.

I rather pay 50 Bucks (or even less, it was in sale pretty often) for the game and get all the future content for free, then paying every season for a shitty pass. And OW2 dont let you buy/earn almost nothing. i Still have ton of currency to buy almost every missing OW1 cosmetic, but i dont need to, cause every OW1 cosmetic i want i already got. Just by playing the game.

F2P Games + Battlepass are always shitty. Even worse are just something like Diablo 4, where you pay 70 bucks, have an ingameshop and a seasonpass.

You can defend it, because "you are not force to buy them" bla bla but it always feels bad to not able to get (new) cool cosmetics, without paying tons of money for totally worthless digital items.

Also you could argue "oh, but with the money that was spent for cosmetics you also get new maps, heroes and modes" - Yeah, cool, but to bad if you dont like specific modes/maps and are forced to play them or when they remove a gamemode + 5 maps on the other hand, that i really loved. Also dont forget the PvE Part that got cut and we dont even get new events anymore.

This game is a big failure if we talk about content & monetarization.

Of course if given the choice, almost everyone would pick to pay a little to get everything for nearly free instead, but that doesn't mean that model actually works for games that are constantly putting out new updates. If the trade off is you get the actual game for free and cosmetics cost money, that's better than the game just dying off because it doesn't make money anymore.

Diablo 4 is absolutely a bad situation, I'm not going to disagree with you there. The idea that the put forward was that it supports upcoming content but then they're still selling expansions and the seasonal content hasn't been enough to feel like it justifies it.

Free to play games with battle passes that are purely cosmetics is absolutely fine though. Especially if those battle pass rewards are able to be unlocked later still, which is something overwatch could improve on but it's getting there like with the mythic changes. It's especially reasonable in a game like overwatch where all you see of your character is the gun anyway unless you're playing like, Rein.

2CP still does exist, it's under arcade though because it shouldn't be anywhere near ranked due to how imbalanced it was throughout literally all of overwatch 1. And we do still get the same level of events for the most part, I don't know where you're getting the idea that we don't, unless you only count pve content but even then every Halloween has gotten new pve events. But basically every battle pass has had a unique PvP mode. We just had mirrorwatch with unique movesets, we had the ticket mode for the Le Sserfim event, battle for Olympus (custom moveset for free for all), Starwatch, and more that I'm probably forgetting.

We've been getting more content at a faster pace than overwatch 1 has given.

Mm, people have been so pissed off about OW2's monetization (rightfully, it is greedy af in parts) that they've forgotten how dry the last three-ish years of OW1 were; Havana was the last relevant map in 2019 and Echo the last hero a year later. After that, there wasn't anything new to the game besides two Deathmatch maps and the seasonal events until OW2 finally came out.

I've been enjoying OW2 a lot once they ironed out some initial gripes I had. Gameplay feels better and I much prefer the one tank per team approach. I like Push the most after Escort/Hybrid, and Clash felt alright for the limited time we got to test it. Flashpoint was initially awful, but I've come around on it after giving it a fair shake.

I do hate that Assault was removed for OW2. I get why it was removed for Ranked, but they could've kept it for Unranked. The one in Arcade doesn't have role limitations, which can easily turn it into a shitshow. And being faded out like that means we also won't get new Assault maps. Honestly, I've always found Control the weakest mode in the rotation, Ilios pretty much being the only one I like. That mode should've been the one to remove instead of Assault imo.

Now, the monetization. They have made some concessions since 2022, but it still sucks. The in-game shop is supplied with skins costing 20€ a piece, and they even have the audacity to sell Highlights and other fluff for real money. Events largely place their legendary offerings behind a paywall, with sometimes one skin given out as a concession*. Compared to that, ponying up 10€ for a Battlepass, which always gives you 5 legendaries, a mythic, credits and fluff, ain't that bad of a deal. It's roughly the cost of a pint in a halfway decent bar in Finland. Except, I'm probably not buying it for S11, because all the skins are awful this time.

*These can sometimes be quite insulting, though. In the Cowboy Bebop event, we got a legendary Wrecking Ball skin... which was essentially just a rough recolor the way Epics usually are. "Legendary". Blizz has started to sneak in such offerings lately. Hashimoto Kiriko, which was in the in-game shop a while ago, was pretty much to that level of effort as well (though it was still dope).

Considering how lootboxes became outlawed in parts of the world, there was no way OW could've kept to the model. Battlepass was where live-service was trending towards, so OW1 would've switched to it even if OW2 had never been in the works. It sucks that we can't get multiple legendaries every event and then some by just diligently playing the game, like we could in OW1, but you get used to the new normal after a while. Or you quit the game.

All in all, I don't think they're asking too much if you have the mental fortitude to only pay for the premium BP and ignore the other, way less reasonable offerings. Nowadays, the free pass gives 600 coins per season too, so you can earn some spending currency by just playing.

I do think it's good that people have been vocal about their gripes all this time, because Blizz certainly wouldn't change things for the better, little by little, if nobody said anything.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

Why this theme? Did they want a Super Sentai/Power Ranger crossover or something? It is just such a weird thing especially given Genji already HAS two Sentai themed skins.

    Just weird.

Oh, and a Lifeguard set too for some reason? Like how does that relate? This just seems like a complete step down from the theming of the Mirrorwatch.
