I still do not understand why a live action version is being made, but the trailer doesn't look bad. It feels like Lilo and Stitch.

Trailer looks better than I expected, tbh, though I still have some minor issues with it. Don't see myself going to see it, but it'll probably do quite well.

What is there to understand beyond "this company wants more money"?

Cute ET was always popular, the merch sales on Stitch will be crazy

Over 8 million trailer views in less than 24 hours. Engagement and visibility are huge. This is likely a billion-dollar box office.

It's one of those scenarios where this should be a fairly easy win for Disney... keyword "should." All Disney has to do is not update the movie 'for a modern audience' and keep their mouths shut while not antagonizing their customers, and the movie will do fine. While just from the trailer it does feel a bit off compared to its fully animated predecessor, that's to be expected at this point.

looks like i'm odd man out.

Lilo ruined the trailer for me. The child's acting skills didn't sell me on it. And Stitch's 3d felt off putting.

To attract nostalgic fools, and also for the kids.

Honestly, practically all their Live Action remakes have been duds, this is the only decent looking one thus far... hard to criticise a small child's acting for obvious lack of experience.

I think that's the wrong way to frame it.

The criticism should go to whoever did the casting and production etc. for using a child that doesn't seem up to the task. There's plenty of very young child actors who can do a great job, whether that's through good instruction/coaching or raw talent. Doesn't really matter which. What matters is finding them and putting them in your film. And if you don't, then people are right to criticize YOU for not doing that.

Shortcutting that process by just leveraging the criticism at the child but really meaning to target the people behind them is understandable shorthand, but of course can turn problematic when people ACTUALLY blame a little girl who does not have the capacity to respond to let alone handle that kind of criticism. It's insane to actually blame the kid, but it's not insane to have a problem with the performance, because that's the result of many adults making decisions, and they're fair game.

All that being said, I personally don't have a problem with the actress. Adorable, and a good fit, imo.

Please enlightenment as to how they might do that.

I've already seen people complain about brown people existing in the movie. I'm sure they're big fans of the original.

Obvious they need to get rid of the DEI little girl and her sister and the DEI federal agent, replace them with real characters chosen by merit.
All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.

What? Please tell me they were obviously trolling.

Or is this like the people upset over the black girl in the Hunger Games?

It's Jumba and Pleakley for me. One of my favorite bits across the original was the two of them bumbling about "incognito" while wearing the most blatantly dogshit disguises, and I'm not sure it'll land the same with the disguises apparently being replaced by a projection of... just some regular dudes.

Like, they'll probably act wacky and there'll probably be a few gags where their cloaks malfunction just as someone looks away and reactivate just before they look back, but it's not quite "a notably gigantic four-eyed man constantly draws attention by trying to convince other people he's actually human."

Well, hard to tell exact context via text sometimes, but didn't seem like obvious trolling to me.

Some "of coooouuuurse Disney had to make them all brown and fat or women," and "This looks like DEI The Movie. ugh" stuff. One comment I saw said "there is way too much color here if you know what I mean." This is what I get for reading YouTube comments, though.

The engagement is so good off this trailer. Even the reaction videos are doing 10k+ views and click-through on ads are very high.

The trailer is going nationwide today in every format.

Pre-sales are going to.be nuts if the merch and apps marketing is as strong as Wicked.

So, either people intentionally trying to piss people off or people who never saw the original ... either way, not worth the time.

ok, so.. I laughed a few times not gonna lie. but I'm still not entirely sure why this movie exists outside of cash grab. AND.. maybe its just me but I feel like the live action actors just don't have the same charm as the cartoon versions had. and like.. they can't even add the deleted scenes back in, because they would immediately get accused of woke by the ignoramuses that completely missed the messages and subtext of the original.

I honestly don't understand why people are so incapable of some basic thought when it comes to things like this.

Cash grab, of course, anything ever made is an attempt at grabbing cash. But the original movie is also 23 years old now, and animated. There are genuinely people out there who simply will not watch anything that old, and other people that just won't watch anything animated. Its just a way to bring new fans in, while also hopefully making a bunch of money in the process, and maybe even giving a bunch of adults some healthy nostalgia.

"Cash grab" is the wrong terminology to use. Cash grab doesn't mean "made to make money."

Every product is made to make money. Cash grab means made cheaply without a care toward quality, morality & /or to fill a contemporary need/trend.

This is a sequel to a 23-year-old film in a live-action series that has been commercially and critically successful- this is not filling a contemporary need or trend. Production began in 2018. The film has a budget north of 100m- this is not cheaply made. Specifically targeting ethnically appropriate casting and location shooting- this is not without regard to morality or ethics.

Just as I predicted. Engagement is so high. Visibility after this weekend's bumpers is gonna skyrocket. Disney is gonna ring up a lot of registers with this one.
