Why does Crit sim so good for frost mage?

Frost mage have baseline 50% extra crit chance so with the 20 I have this means i have 70% crit chance

When i play frost mage it feels like all im doing is using spells when they are gonna crit so I dont understand why sims tells me I need more crit??

Have sims missed that shatter 50% extra crit exist?

Im im already critting everything how can crit be better than versa or mastery?

    Math is hard though

do you realize critical strike doesn't just increase the chance of a crit but also the damage of the crit?

You need 33.34% crit for spells that benefit from shatter to crit for sure. Mastery is mostly usless unless you take hailstones.

Any gear with haste or crit thats higher ilvl than what you have is an upgrade. Ideally you want haste and crit on it.

If it sims better than that's just how it is. Practically it makes sense because most of your casts are instants. Frost bolt and glacial spike are pretty fast to being with.

Pretty sure crits are 2x damage.

    That's not true.

OP, the reason why crit sims so high is because shatter multiplies your crit by an additional 50%, making the stat more valuable compared to the others. It also ADDS 50% ontop.

So your chance to crit against frozen targets is crit_rating*1.5 +50%.

The stat is simple worth more, thanks through shatter.

In your explanation you only considered the additional crit, not the multiplied crit.

Can you ELI5? Lets stay I have 20% baseline + Shatter, what do I have in %?

    80%

    20%*1.5+50%.

    Shatter:
Multiplies the critical strike chance of your spells against frozen targets by 1.5, and adds an additional 50% critical strike chance.
So, if your gear would give you 20% crit, your shattered spells actually have 80% crit chance. 30 from the first part of shatter and 50 from the last.

So for simulations every point of crit is worth 1.5 times as much (50% more) as normal.

And because of this 33.33% crit from gear is the optimum: because 33.33%*1.5+50%= 100% crit. And more than 100% crit is wasted, more crit would only buff your none shattered spells, that benefit regularly from crit.
