    Old Content: Dungeon Drop Rates

Here's an odd question. Its been ages since I've ran low-level dungeons. I'm running a low level character, currently L34 (XP disabled). Been running through Classic, BC, and LK, focusing entirely on questing up until recently, and now I'm going back through and doing the dungeons. In BC, I've ran 8 dungeons, and I've only seen 2 boss drops. That's 25 bosses, and 2 drops. That can't be right, can it? I've heard of bad RNG, but that's ridiculous.

EDIT: Aaaaand I dropped this in the wrong area. LOL Should be in WoW General Discussion.

    Are you on Chromie time?

If so, Im guessing then you're on Group Loot.
1 in 5 chance of seeing a drop. Which almost matches your 2 in 12 drops.

Not that I am aware of. Since I'm L34 there's no need for me to be on Chromie Time, as I am of appropriate level for the content. However, I will check to see if I'm on Group Loot.

are you solo-ing the place? or with a group of people? curious as to how long your queue timers would be for the dungeon, unless they lump people who are both in and out of Chromie Time into the same queue?

    I'm running solo.

When soloing old content, you always want to be outside of Chromie Time. That way you have full control of editing settings for Legacy Content (old dungeons and raids) including the Loot Rules, Raid Size (10 or 25 in most cases) and Content Difficulty (Normal, Heroic and/or Mythic).
...Ok, time to change the ol' Sig ^_^

I can see and adjust Content Difficulty and Raid Size, but I don't see anything pertaining to Loot Rules. The only thing I see related to Loot is my Spec. This character has never spoken to Chromie, since its supposed to always be running content of the appropriate level, which is why I disable XP, and I do not see the Chromie Time icon up near the map. I went and talked with her and she had the option to select a timeline, so I'm pretty sure I'm not on Chromie Time.

The loot rules are automatic as I understand. You need to be 11+ levels above the content you are running in order for legacy loot to kick on. So for classic, tbc and wotlk you need to be 41 or higher for personal loot to no longer apply

But then everything gets one-shotted, and the loot you get is pointless. Why would anyone ever think that was a good idea? The whole reason I have XP disabled is so that the content is still engaging at some level, and that dungeons are still somewhat of a challenge; in fact, I've actually died a few times. That's more than a bit disheartening, knowing that I *might* get 2 more drops from the rest of BC and, if I'm really lucky, 4-5 drops in all of LK. But if I go back and roflstomp the content with a high level character I get useless drops galore. *sigh* Oh well...

so unless it's legacy loot rules, you're limited to one piece of loot per boss. and it's a 20% chance on whether you'll get loot. 2 pieces of loot for 25 bosses is pretty bad RNG, but that sort of thing does exist. I do wonder though, because BC stops at level 35 and you're level 34 maybe that has something to do with it? I dunno. I'd be curious as to what would happen if you entered Chromie Time, queued and did the dungeons that way - whether you'd get more loot.

Unfortunately 10-12% - are real droprates for dungeons. That's why dungeons are so bad content. For example I would play solo dungeons, if droprates there wouldn't be so ridiculous. 10% droprate is 1 item per 10 bosses on average. Sometimes it's 15. Sometimes it's 20, when you're unlucky. Plus it seems like different items have different droprates. Some have lower droprates, that makes task even more difficult and even less fun to do. It causes duplicate problem. Blizzard make illusion, that situation isn't that bad with their RNG via dropping lots of duplicates. Something drops? Yeah. Then everything is ok. No matter, that duplicate is equivalent to no loot at all.
FOMO, gating, RNG, grind, overtuning, competition - endgame.
Solo MMO: no more humiliating queues and toxic competing.
Aggro and combat: game would only be better without obsoleted mechanics.
DF in a nutshell: GW2 copy-paste with AFK events and nothing to do.

If that's the actual drop rates for level-appropriate dungeons, how does anyone gear up for raids? Honest question, I'm not a raider, so that's not my scene.

Because you don't gear up for raids in low level dungeons would be the most straightforward answer!

LOL! I thought this affected all dungeons. My bad.

I've been running various characters through various expansions and haven't really caught up to live. Most of what they have done was the 11+ stuff; I ran a qiraji-themed Hunter through AQ20/40 to farm Strikers and get the pets, while another has been farming the Schematics he's missing, got a Wildhammer Dwarf in the Kirin Tor area, etc. This is the first character in a while that has done level-appropriate instances of any kind, outside of dipping my toe into a few during the Pandamonium event, which is why that has been throwing me for a loop.
