Where was a dictating what people can and can't do with their money? Alcohol has nothing to do with this, thats literally a fallacy.

I'm responding to your rageposts this way because you aren't actually posting anything of substance. What about alcohol isn't a counter to anything I said. Nor is accusing me of trying to dictate what people spend their money on. If you want to disagree with my points that the money would be better spent to help others, go ahead, but maybe put some actual thought into it. This is a weak attempt.

If they are happy with their purchase and gets enjoyment out of it, then they have not wasted their money. And what would be cheaper drasrically cheaper? The mounts? How so? 1 million gold? Two million gold? How long would it take to acquire that gold in game? You may considered it time well spend earning/grinding for that amount. Other may consider that a waste of time.

And that does not explain how that would the game better that you keep repeating.

    Just can't stop with insults.

Microtransactions itself is not necessary a bad thing. Depending on the context on how it is being used. Sure. Microtransactions for loot boxes was issues because it was a form gambling which for people became an addiction.

Just like gambling. Just like alcohol. On its own it is not necessary a problem. It was the addiction that really caused people to suffer.

But you do not like so it is bad.

The trading post wouldn't exist, we wouldn't get as many options or ways to obtain old content people paid for anyways (like collector's edition mounts or 6/12 month subs), and nothing would get cheaper anyways even if the cash shop was around. If it suddenly became a lot less popular all they would do is disband / heavily reduce their cash shop focused team that works on mounts / transmog / etc.

It would be nice if they sold things for $5 / $10 instead but then they'd be leaving a ton of money on the table and probably gaining very few purchases in comparison to the profit loss. Things go on sale for $10 later on, sometimes even cheaper - the impatient will always pay full price as always.

eh, no... selling progresion a gold was a thing since vanila, loooooooong before pony...
but sure, lets say blizz (kinda) sells gold - no progres though, so one small step towards something that ALREADY EXISTED before, in over a decade...
yeah 2050 was too optimistic, 2045 it is... /s

in the meantime we get SHITLOADS of new unique mounts ingame since pony (hell just class q lines in legion gave as 12 which is like half of shop mounts), game is getting more content after shop than before, and lately we are getting multiple different versions of game for one price which was not increased in 20 years... can you name other service that is the same price it was 20years ago?

but yeah "we will have to buy progression 'soon'"
? Are you inbred or something? Just cosmetics? You can literally swipe your credit card and skip 90% of the game instantly... then you can swipe your card again and skip the other 10%. Also, tell me you didnt actually play Vanilla without telling me, mage boosting was a VERY rare thing. Blizzard also doesnt "kinda" sell gold, they DIRECTLY SELL IT. As for the sub price, fine... increase the sub price by a five bucks a month and remove the shop.

Now the AH mount is back for 90$ on the cash shop instead of being in game in any form... and guess what, its limited time. They are going to make bank off this.

This is even worse because we already pay for expansions, and then also pay a sub.
Asmon of all people said it best,

"If 80% of WoW players unsubbed the instant the sparkle pony was announced, we'd have all gotten it for free and Bobby would have sent out a hand written note of apology to everyone for thinking they could get away with that crap"

I've already said this and I'll say it again: EVERYTHING (in terms of appearance) that is available in the game to be conquered should also be in the store. People who are against this still don't understand the phrase "time is money, friend".

  7. #107
I don't support the idea of seasonal *anything* FOMO.

The one exception is I'd like to see them continue the chinese zodiac mounts just cuz I think there are some fun concepts of elemental + animal, but I'd rather they not be store mounts.

You're paying a monthly subscription. Everyone knows what that means. The question you need to answer is "If you're not having fun with your time spent ingame, then why the hell are you paying for a subscription to begin with?"

If the only way you're having fun is to pay extra money to be in a pixelated modeling contest, or collection game...oh...well shit, that does seem to be the direction "World of Warcraft" is going into...carry on.

If they aren't outrageously priced like the brutosaur mount, sure I don't really care about them adding 20-25 euro mounts to the store.
Ideally they should add seasonal mounts as drops during holiday events, in addition to the mounts already available.

No, having things limited by time in the store is bad in general and I'm still of the belief everything should be obtainable in game. However Blizzard has proven that their thresholds are changing and I strongly expect more lucrative items in the Store after the Brutosaur. I think they're pushing to see what can be added, and the Brutosaur to me is a leap because it's unique combo of features has never been in the game before, and the AH utility was so rare/valued at 5 Mil+.

I think the Bear/Yak and the Brutosaur will lead to more things, Spectral Tiger, maybe other unique mounts/skins from the games past. I really think it's more case of when not if now.

I bought Eve's Ghastly Rider, because I wanted it and can afford it. First time I've ever paid for anything cosmetic in the Blizzard shop. I wasn't playing when it was a Trading Post reward, and I've always wanted a permanent broomstick. Not thrilled about MTs being part of the game, but like it or not they've been around a long time and they're here to stay.

Once my next paycheck comes in I'm going for the Brutosaur. Oh well.

yeah, thats not how reality works...
without cash shop either game would be closed or sub higher, or we would get less content

even just the mounts, those on shop would not exist, and recolors/derivatives of those on shop would not exist either...

The game makes enough money with box price and subscriptions to make huge profits. Everything in the store is just extra greed. But you are right that even if Wow would make a ton of profit without store items, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard would find another way to increase profits and sacking developers would be their goto strategy. Because they suck ass.

Selling mounts that were free and ones that cost more than the actual game is just the way of things now. You can even see all the people in this thread cheering on the billion dollar company for it. We live in strange times.

I just want to point something out. I agree on being happy and finding value in it, but it oft feels the people complaining make impulse purchases. Reason I say this is I never made a purchase for RaF and other mounts in the past and they’re now cycled through the Trading Post. I remember the complaints at the time, like the sparkle pony. It pays off to be patient, because realistically these mounts are NOT fomo when they come back - and if price point is an issue you can wait for the bundle. So the complaints give me doubts about the users’ behaviors against their concerns.

You might as well just argue for a bot to play the game for you....

    1. Asmongold....somehow... of all people... summed it up best, if 80% of the playerbase unsubbed the instant the sparkle pony was announced, the cash shop would have been instantly removed, everyone would have gotten it for free, and Bobby would have mailed every player a handwritten apology for thinking they could get away with that crap.

    2. True... and if WoW was FtP, I'd have zero issues with the cash shop. But........its not... you have to pay box price+sub price AND then they want to tack on a cash shop. Now, honestly I don't blame them, I blame the moronic players that pay for this shit.... Why wouldn't Blizzard do it? Take the recent cash grab... I mean... mount released.. lets lowball sub numbers at retail at 4M, and lets say only 1/4 of the playerbase buys the scam... I mean... mount... thats 45 MILLION DOLLARS for something that would take ONE dev, what... 5 hours to reskin an existing mount? They'd be stupid NOT to do it.

And in fairness, the TCG mounts have been selling on Ebay and third party sites for way more than the recent new mounts, and I don't think too many people complained about them.
