People are experimenting more with San'layn since the buffs it got, it's still better for survivability than Deathbringer but behind in damage. It depends on the content you're doing and your own gear, if you need to focus more on staying alive then it's certainly the better option.
But there's something satisfying about those big scythe Marrowrends.

Yeah Deathbringer is generally a bit tankier whilst San'layn is stronger ST and can RNG some absolutely crazy AOE damage with the Blood Beast/The Blood if Life procs. There's nothing wrong with Deathbringer, for pretty much all content its fine. However in higher end Mythic Raiding its becoming the more go to, probably from an output perspective (or at least that's why I'm leaning that way). Stats are pretty much opposites, Deathbringer is more balanced, with a slight dislike of haste, whereas San'layn wants haste above the other secondaries, but you should probably always sim to confirm this.
Dristereau - Axxolentus - Infernus - Sequentia - Nulo - Desterrar
Silvermoon - Shadowsong/Aszune - Tarren-Mill/Dentarg (SL Mage Tower: 29/36)
San'layn has reduced CD options on defensives, passive DR in DnD and significant amounts of self heal. Deathbringer has a couple of passive damage reductions but the majority of the play is offensive.
Damage wise, you're looking at burst vs consistency. The only drawback to Deathbringer is the RNG on exterminate bringing up an additional reaper's mark.
