because it was expensive to run a server for that game in 2004.

Now it's cheaper, even some private server are able to do the same for free.

No private server is hosting 5-7 million players. Let's not get delusional here about how much servers cost. The WoW team is over 1,000 people as well. And we know they don't make minimum wage.

so I have two thoughts on this. first one is that we are getting a new zone in 11.2 and they just haven't added it to the roadmap because the reveal of the zone might spoil the storyline? the new zone usually sets up the new raid, so unless we're getting a raid in an already existing zone then they have to do a new zone yeah? and if it's a current zone, then that zone will probably be affected in a way similar to how Uldum and Vale were affected by N'Zoth breaking free in BfA

They did not reveal the raid or the dungeon. They could have simply said New Zone, New Delves on the roadmap. They did not. Instead they used the banner space for New Open World Challenges and Warband Updates. The reasonable assumption then is, NO new zone, NO new delves.

which if true then that means that we're revisiting an old zone that will probably be updated for use...

Yeah, e.g. an upgraded Silithus would absolutely make sense what with the expansion introduction. A best case scenario would be Silithus plus Ahn'Qiraj area merged into one upgraded zone.
But I don't know, I am keeping my expectations low. It could just be new content in Khaz Algar.

Feels like they revealed a lot. I just came back to the game for TWW after a long absence, and I don't remember them posting detailed annual timelines for release like this back in the day. How long have they been doing that? Looks like they essentially gave us a window for every patch for the rest of the xpac. Kinda takes away from the surprise factor IMO to tell us when exactly to expect the season changes, the Midnight reveal, etc. Also I figure player housing will be a major feature of Midnight. A little odd to me to tease that this far ahead of the full reveal of the xpac.

This is the third time. There was one for 2023 and one for 2024. The community reception the first time they did it was overwhelmingly positive, as it indicated a commitment to a steady and relatively fast-paced content release schedule. Back then, this was really important having just come from Shadowlands where there had been multiple extremely long content droughts. It should be noted that they have updated them in the past to add additional details, so I expect the vagueness of this one may be revised over time.

They updated the road map and added "New Zone" to the 11.2 column.

And the people chirping about it will absolutely not come back to eat their crow about their false outrage. A tale as old as time.

I'm definitely NOT talking about people speculating what it could be if not a new zone.

They are already remaking the entire northern part of Eastern Kingdoms and Northrend in the next 2 xpacs. I don't know what you hoped to get from a "world revamp" in a patch for the record, but it would definitely be some lame shit compared to that.

Let's be clear here: anything Val the Moofia Boss says always ages poorly.
