MMOC auto redirecting to a scam page?

Recently I've had this bizarre occurrence where I'll be browsing MMOC (not clicking anything) and the page suddenly changes to a fake McAfee scam page with half a dozen fake popups that are trying to get me to click on them. It's happened twice in the span of 2 days.

Could an ad or some kind of weird script inject be the culprit? I haven't had this problem elsewhere and I usually have 20+ tabs open at any given time. I'll try to take a screenshot the next time it happens.

I suggest you run a scan on your PC... sounds like you got a URL hijacker.

I just did a full scan and nothing came up.

Did you do both a virus and a malware scan? If nothing on both try downloading an adblocker(Ublock Origin).

clear your history and cookies back to before it started happening-sometimes you accidentally click a scam site and it starts doing that usually fixes it and deletes whatever it changed

Again...Firefox with NoScript and AdGuard Adblock...or UBlock.
You don't browse websites without protection.

I did both the Full Scan and Offline Scan options in Microsoft Defender. Between the windows protections, the google chrome protections and plain common sense it's really hard to believe a virus or some kind of malware would've gotten through.

I use Adblock Plus although it has been really weak lately and not blocking much. I'm thinking of changing, might try out Ublock.

Well, thanks for the replies. I'll change my Adblocker and if that doesn't do it I'll take 1 week off MMOC and see if it happens anywhere else.

Adblock doesn't catch scripts in the background, that's why I add NoScript.
That said, I'd opt for UBlock for a single catch-all.

uBlock Origin is the tits, shame it no longer works in Chrome though (not that I used it anyway), fuck Google and their Manifest V3 crap.

    This is 100% a you-problem. Try Malwarebytes.

It still works in Chrome. You get a page of it not being supported or some bs from google, but it works fine(blocking 4 things on this page atm, while adblock plus is only blocking 1).
