[Live Action] How to Train Your Dragon

Though i'm not a fan of live action remakes, it looks kinda lit.
The characters seem to stay true to their original looks. Though, i can't get over comments like: "what a classic. This is my childhood". Are they for real? This was released last decade. Insert Back to the Future Meme: "oh, i've seen it. It's a classic. What do you mean? It's brand new".

Im a big fan of the animations, didn't like much the last movie, but i even watched the netflix series, had good times with my small cousins but Honestly, i didn't like the trailer.

    Looks like another soulless cashgrab CGI heavy crap, that will either be a copy paste or ruin the story like Lion king(i still dont know how that crap made a billion dollars);

This is something that rly, didn't need to be made, unless, they would follow the books, since its another story entirelly, it would be fun to see the stuff like the roman empire of that world.

Im feed up with this trend of making animation live-action for a creative-bankrupt industry, I bet they are even thinking about making ice age and Shrek live action, and if this makes a success, you bet they will do.

if people like, good for then i guess

Well, with the exception of Astrid, they HAD to change at least ONE character to be the token, so it doesn't look like the animation, at all, not that it would make any difference, we know this is for engagement bait

Make a Dragonriders of Pern movie already, you cowards! skreeeeeeee!

...this looks 'aight, I guess, for a kids movie. It was never going to be big and deep anyway, and it looks sharp enough to get the toddleboppers. Yeah CGI fiesta and all that but they got the main dragonoodle looking crisp and real so that's all that matters.

As you said, unless they're drastically changing the story, the animated movie holds up well even today. Only reason to remake it (and so far the trailer indicates likely a shot-for-shot remake) is because they want their soulless cashgrab movie since they think they can make more just remaking the same thing.

I think the only reason The Lion King CGI remake did as well as it did was because the public tends to be a lagging indicator for such trends. Basically, takes them a couple times to realize that something's bad after getting fooled a few times; to be fair, most don't follow such news closely nor make analytical decisions, they just show up and eventually go "wait a minute... something's not right." Also helps that the original animated movie was and still is liked. How to Train Your Dragon live action remake is trying to emulate the same phenomenon, but what's going against it is a built-up resistance to the tactic.

If this movie does well, it'll be because of the mentality "Hey, that's the thing I like!" Kind of curious how much money they'd make if they did a bait-and-switch, bait a live action while just showing the original animated movie in theaters. Ironically enough, studios could probably rake in more money than some of the live actions films did since there'd be no production costs.

I mean.. It looks okay. I do not need to see it though. I have already seen the movie. I am not sure what I am going to get out of a live action when the animated one is still very fresh.

I am sure some new young audience might find something to like about it though. But this just feels pointless.

And you take the bait without hesitation while pointing out that you are going to take the bait, actually hilarious.

Feels unnecessary. Not every animated movie needs a live action remake.
Princesses can kill knights to rescue dragons.

I only wish that Jay Baruchel would have some part in it, even as the narrator.

The movie will probably be just fine, but feels pretty unnecessary to make. It's got so much CGI in it, it's still basically a cartoon.

Right? even the clothes are goofy like in the cartoon, its so weird

They could have made full on "realistic" shit, like the dragons in House of the dragon or try to adapt the books. But seems like this is just a safe easy cashgrab they can pump in these times.

looks like gray scaled slop! and now of course we have yet another instance of an actor's skin color pissing off the same people who manage to find a reason to bitch about everything involving people who aren't the only acceptable skin tone: white.
as if the voice of Astrid in the animated movies wasn't Latino.

The trailer looks good, not gonna lie.

My kids are interested in it, so I assume it will do well. DreamWorks did a good job with the franchise, and even though this feels entirely unnecessary, it will probably be entertaining.

If they don't change the story it will be entertaining, cause the animation movie is pretty darn good, but i dont think it will pull the same numbers Lion king did.

But who knows, with a lower budget might crack some good numbers

the only people who care about this stuff are racists, like its so painfully obvious that's the driving factor here. "there were no brown skinned people in Norway or wherever" and neither were dragons....

like if THAT is going to ruin your movie going experience, good, I hope it happens all the time.

Ooh, you must not have seen the best part yet. The part where the obvious racist (particularly towards black people) claims that they're black.

    Potent Dean Browning vibes.

good grief, yeah "I'm literally the first person to complain about a character's race in this thread and I'm totally not the upset one, you are!"

    it's giving, folks!

Ultimately, in isolation race-swapping a character in this movie probably isn't going to matter, but it's an indicator of priorities and a reflection of the people recreating the movie (neither of which are good). What tends to get miscontrued is that it's not the people that point out there there are race swaps that have a fixation on color, it's the people doing the race-swaps that have a fixation on color... otherwise they wouldn't have bothered race-swapping to begin with. The fallacious arguments getting thrown around are akin to saying that someone noticing a building on fire is an arsonist and criminal, when it's actually the people lighting the build on fire that are the arsonists and criminals.

When it comes to the content and its fantastical nature, you still have to have some ground rules and logic to some degree. Even then, you do have some liberties. However... this is still a remake. Unless you doing some world building changes, the race-swapping doesn't make sense within the context of the original plot and setting. If they wanted to make a massive revamp and go How to Train Your Dragon: Motown Edition, go nuts!... I'd actually want to see that, could be funny and entertaining, not that I think they have the stones to do a remake like that.
