so I guess they can tell the difference between players who leave and players who got kicked?
HALLELUJAH! Warm-welcomed change.
Altho, I still think that "key system" within m+ needs to be removed completely.
Everyone should be able to choose which dungeon and difficulty they want to run.
(something similar to how torghast/delves work. if you beat +5 MIST, then you unlock +5 MIST on your account and you can step into it whenever you wish)
I agree with this move but its going to be very entertaining seeing them boys that just ditch people left and right because "this no longer helps me so peace.. who cares about you 4" people simply become longs on the fire to warm my hands.
Watch the tears flow. I just came from Wal-mart, I should have got some Krunch-N-Munch. Cause People are going to tell the stories on why they shouldn't be suspended or banned for leaving M+ groups all the time.
it's a start
yea and if someone got banned for this its not even arguable cuz they specifically mentioned in the article that they understand and are aware that people sometimes just have a bad key and leave or DC or whatever, and that this is specifically about people who were joining groups for the express purpose of leaving to grief the key
Be careful who you chat it up with here on these forums. If you are NOT for WoW and about WoW, people will report whatever you say and get you banned
Eh, yes and no. Sometimes, the thing you are doing severely wrong is being lower ilvl than someone else the group leader just found and kicked (but this would typically be before the run but not always, especially if the partial premade has multiple keys to run); another flavor is being lower ilvl and/or slower but still on track to finish the key, but you get kicked because you're not going fast enough. Sometimes people's demeanor or approach to a key don't align and just rub each other raw, even if everything is going decent enough, and the kicks start flying; seen keys where tanks get kicked for zooming ahead without the group, even though they're successfully soloing the key, just because the other people don't like it. Sometimes people get kicked because they have hit-or-miss internet connections/latency, so with enough lagging or disconnects get them kicked more often than not. I know someone who say something like "This key's group the best ever! Just like Trump!" randomly during the M+ run... and they got kicked quite a few times, funnily enough. And there's a bunch of other scenarios beyond a person just trolling or being legitimately toxic getting kicked.
Regardless, majority of people with a record of consistent kicks from M+ keys are likely to be the offenders. I hope there's more than one metric used before a kick is done, like said player getting reported for activity that would indicate they deserved the kick... or a history of in-game offenses.

“Society is endangered not by the great profligacy of a few, but by the laxity of morals amongst all.”
“It's not an endlessly expanding list of rights — the 'right' to education, the 'right' to health care, the 'right' to food and housing. That's not freedom, that's dependency. Those aren't rights, those are the rations of slavery — hay and a barn for human cattle.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville
To be specific, there's nothing at all in the announcement about people being banned for being kicked. Only intentionally leaving keys in a griefing way. We know they can determine between a kick and a leave group, so there's no reason to think people would get banned for being kicked.

I very much doubt this is going to be anything other than "show me all players who have left more than X M+ dungeons within the first minutes" or something like that. They'd be able to whittle things down enough normal players won't have to worry.
Interesting.
I've always wondered if Blizzard could realistically police this kind of behavior in any kind of meaningful way - maybe they can? It'd be the right way to go about it, the only problem with it is feasibility, really. We'll have to wait and see if this actually makes a dent or if it's just a marketing stunt where they reassure everyone the Bad Man has been sufficiently chastised while nothing really changes in the broad average.
Yep! While keys are the whole point of the system, they're also the reason why quitters are such a big deal. Tbh I don't think pugging high keys is a good idea... I mean, you wouldn't really PuG Mythic raids, but even if you did, you can just kick the griefers and move on; but when you add keys into the mix, a single bad apple can cause nearly irreversible damage.
It's no wonder the environment gets toxic fast, and I'm happy that Blizzard took action. However, having a look at the whole system is probably in order too.
Taking us back to the internet of old where players would pull the ethernet cord to get out of groups.
