    Nvidia Smooth Motion and WOW

Has anyone with the 50 series card tried the Nvidia Smooth Motion function with WOW? Does it work well?

I only recently found out about AMD's fluid motion frames, and tried it out with my 7800 XT and it is working very well!

I'm wondering how Nvidia's Smooth Motion compares with AMD's AFMF, and wondering if I should go Team Green or Team Red for my next upgrade (of course if WOW decides to implement DLSS or FSR 4 then it's a no brainer choice).

    Yes it’s amazing 5080 here,

    It’s Amaaaaazing!

    3440x1440 oled screen.

I’m now getting 270fps doing world content and 124 fps in the hubs when it’s very busy.

I’m running every single setting max.

Every slider on 10 even have RTX shadows on max and to top it off adding RTX HDR in the Nvida app which looks amazing but is known to tank fps by about 15%

Honestly a game changer for me.

No artifacting No smeering honestly you wouldn’t know it was enabled.

I actually take this statement back now, if there are too many players in an area i get crazy artificing only happens in hubs, only happens when smooth motion is enabled.

Yeah after playing with it for a few days, I too have turned off AFMF. It is laggy when skyriding above Dornagal. If just walking around it's fine though.

Just wanted to update that I just upgraded to a 5070 Ti, and nvidia Smooth Motion is working well for me, no noticeable artifacts even in Dornagal.

It does still stutter while skyriding above Dornagal, but it stutters too without smooth motion enabled anyways.

Is smooth motion working for all of you? I have a rtx 5090 and 9800 x3d and I don't think it's turned on for me. I see no frame rate change in game. I don't know if there are some other settings I have on that it's not compatible with. I did some searching and tried starting the game in windowed and then changing to windowed fullscreen. That didn't do it either. I have a 240hz monitor, desktop refresh rate is set to that. In game refresh rate not capped, not capped in nvidia app. So not sure what's going on. Any ideas? What settings do you all have?

Well obviously it stutters. Fake frames will not actually enhance the performance, they just lie to you.

The game doesn't know the frames are there because it's not built in. You have to use something else to see it, Like Nvidia's overlay or afterburner's.

Is that just a flex? Why would you need Smooth Motion with a 5090 and any X3D cpu? I only have a standatd 5070 and Smooth Motion made 0 difference. Probably added unnecessary overhead if i sat and ran the numbers.

Im not someone who is against frame gen but you dont want it on if you don't need it. It just creates fake frames you don't need or will see if your frames are already capped.

I started using Smooth Motion with the early access in Midnight and i have to say that it's better than expected.
With it enabled it doesn't feel as bad in Silvermoon. You don't notice the difference in FPS between questing and main hub that much anymore.

For framegen to make sense there is one big caveat, your FPS BEFORE framegen has to be high enough.
Usually 50 FPS at least for me (very dependant on the game), the more the better.
Otherwise you will get noticeable artifacts and it won't feel good enough (it looks smoother but you FEEL the real (low) FPS, like doubling from 30 to 60).

In general i think FG is mostly of use when trying to cap very high refreshrates that you would otherwise never reach, like 240Hz for example.

Personally i am playing on a 144Hz display atm (looking to upgrade to a 240Hz 4K OLED when the price is right) on a 5800X3D with a 4090 (not that it matters for WoW since it's VERY CPU-Limited).

I capped the FPS via RTSS to 140 and enabled Smooth Motion in the NV App for WoW.
Now i get a mostly stable 140 FPS with a real FPS base of 70, which feels ok for a game like WoW.
Like, i would never do that in a competetive shooter like Arc Raiders, which i've played quite alot before Midnight release
