Blizzard's Response to Classic Hardcore DDoS Attacks

Blizzard's Response to Classic Hardcore DDoS Attacks
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
    Greetings,

Recently, we have experienced unprecedented distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that impacted many Blizzard game services, including Hardcore realms, with the singular goal of disrupting players’ experiences. As we continue our work to further strengthen the resilience of WoW realms and our rapid response time, we’re taking steps to resurrect player-characters that were lost as a result of these attacks. Unlike the many other ways characters can die in Hardcore, DDoS attacks are an intentionally malicious effort made by third-party bad actors, and we believe the severity and results of DDoS attacks specifically warrant a different response.

In the future, Blizzard may elect – at our sole discretion – to revive Hardcore characters that perish in a mass event which we deem inconsistent with the integrity of the game, such as a DDoS attack.

Our broader stance on character restorations or death appeals has not changed. To be clear, we do not intend to revive characters which have died due to server disconnects, lag spikes, gameplay bugs, or any other reasons. Blizzard Customer Support cannot assist with issues related to characters who have died on Hardcore realms.

Thank you, as always, for your feedback.

    Clay Stone
    Associate Production Director, WoW Classic

Deaths from disconnects, lag spikes, and server issues should be reversed anyway. The only reason they don't want to do that is sheer laziness.

    Imagine caring about Hardcore.

    I don't play hardcore, it doesn't affect me - I don't care.

TO me - the fact that they got a team of hard core players to max level and were raiding is an amazing achievement in itself - being penalised for malicious activities would only encourage it.

If you come up with some mechanism to detect involuntary disconnects, lag spikes and the like - please come forth - Blizzard would like to hire you.

Challenge Mode : Play WoW like my disability has me play:
You will need two people, Brian MUST use the mouse for movement/looking and John MUST use the keyboard for casting, attacking, healing etc.
Briand and John share the same goal, same intentions - but they can't talk to each other, however they can react to each other's in game activities.
Now see how far Brian and John get in WoW.

You do realise that once they'll start doing that, people will abuse it. You see you're dying, you just turn your connection off. And no one will ever die this way unless the death is instant.

Blizzard couldn't let go of their free advertising and caved in to break their most strict rule.

Don't ever let them tell you streamer privileges don't exist.

I hope Blizzard have a FULL list of EVERY DDOS HC death EVER, thats alot of revives to do, fair is fair

I also lost a level 1 HC character I insist it is revived with its 999999999999999999999999 gold

It's good that they reverse these deaths. Even people who get paid for playing can't keep leveling up and getting DDoS'd each time they try to raid. People will fall off quickly. Like it or not, this guild has contributed massive hype to classic again.

Before official hardcore, video evidence was enough. So many people recorded their playing.

Disconnects and lag are not always the game's fault. If I have shitty internet or insist on gaming in a storm, how is that their problem?

And frankly playing a permadeath mode in a game where you can die from a battery of issues not related to skill is fairly dumb to begin with unless you don't care about dying.

Might as well ask a shark to walk out of the ocean and have a conversation with you.

Even if i enjoyed watching some of these raids and streams it is really bad and hypocritic decision showing again how only $$ is important for that shitty company.
Can't wait for ressed streamers redo the BWL... and are dead again due same problems.

Yeah they HAD to do something, because HC streamers are a major marketing asset to them. These streamers would surely not run HC raids again if there would not be some kind of protection promised against this.

Yeah this will totally deter whoever did this...

The real question is.. if a 40 player man raid of a guild filled to the brim with almost all the WOW streamer hadn't died during the DDOS.. sure others did too.. but you got to wonder right?

I'm playing HC ,and my characters are alive.

I understand some people are mad or jealous if they revive some players.

But, this group deserved to be revived. It was an attack agaisnt them.

    We cannot let DDOS win.
