God can we just stop fracturing the player base please? Im tired of retail feeling like it's dead all the time.
I know, that it's unpopular opinion, but MOP was one of the worst xpacks ever made. All that anti-flying witch hunt, that killed leveling and all content beyond 5.0. FOMO rep grind "borrowed powers" thing. Why "borrowed powers"? Because it was first time, when alts were killed due to requirement to grind something on every alt for 2 months before starting to get any meaningful rewards. Talent system was killed. Class mechanics were killed due to stat nerfs. LFR was killed due to overtuning and time-gating. It was also first incarnation of claustrophobic no-flying isles (I don't count Molten Front, cuz it was only one patch, not whole xpack). It was also first time since Vanilla/TBC, when even outdoor content was overtuned a little bit. I mean, leveling was little bit overtuned for green gear, new player most likely had by default. Plus that overtuned Shadopan dailies. Overall for me it was one of the least played xpacks. I was returning only to try new patches and quit again.
Only positive moments:
1) Atmosphere
2) Farmville
But I keep repeating it again, again and again. "Relaunch" scheme isn't for me. I want permanent servers, cuz I don't want to waste my effort on "temporary" content. Remember? Player, who would want to start everything from scratch, could always make new alt. As simple, as that. Making 2nd, 3rd, 100500th relaunch just to force players to play from scratch - is extremely terrible business model, that doesn't take caring about permanent progression and not wanting to lose it into account.
Perfect solution - global timewalking, when players would be able to visit ALL old content (including outdoor) on max level characters without any need to lose any existing progression due to starting from scratch.

FOMO, gating, RNG, grind, overtuning, competition - endgame.
Solo MMO: no more humiliating queues and toxic competing.
Playing online game is like trying to get to work via bus at rush hour.
The only viable winning strategy in this case - not to play it.
I loved MoP. But I do remember bastards throwing tantrums cause of the flying.
I played so much MoP remix that I got my panda fix for some time. Its an issue that I had with OG MoP where I got so tired of the pandaren and their aesthetics.
This is such an out of touch comment. If players who choose not to play retail because they prefer classic iterations, how can one think that this would “fracture” the retail population?
Perhaps there is something wrong with retail as to why they play classic instead? And this is coming from somebody who is privileged to have time to play all 3 versions of WoW at the moment.
You want to force people to play a version of the game they don’t want to? You think people are playing classic iterations because it’s just available?
Maybe it's dead because it's boring.
You realize that most people who play Classic aren't playing retail ? The "fracture" has been here for most WoW life, and not offering to people what they want to play won't force them to play with you, most will simply play something else.
And the mind-boggingly easy content until raids (but that's part of the game since WotLK).
I'm going to reactivate my account to play MoP, but it'll mainly be to enjoy the leveling and the ambiance. Instances are a snoozefest at their original tuning.
Do you think it splits the playerbase like that? Do you know its probably 95/5 ratio, retail/classic - At this point, retail blooming each patch.

Exactly, how many m+ runs did we have last season? 25-26 million runs last patch, 35-40 million characters. And thats only M+, not raids, not PvP etc. People thinking classic emptying out retail.... We should be happy there's options. Im playing both myself.
Ok I get that "Retail Feels Dead" but its not. Like it FEELS dead because they don't see people chatting in trade like the days of yore or that Org isn't flooded with people sitting around showing off their mount.
BUT when you look at the real picture. Like theres ALWAYS a ton of groups on the groupfinder for all sorts of shit. Whenever time of the week I feel like killing the world boss there is a group for it up and ready. If I queue for a heroic (Which is mostly obsolete these days) I get a group in like 15 minutes as a DPS AT WORST. Hell I just learned on the EU side there's a dude who's imfamous in the random BG group for spamming premades if that's not community I have no fucking idea what is.
Yeah people aren't sitting around wow chatting about shit spamming anal [itemname] and "Did Somebody say Thunderfury" memes anymore. There isn't folks randomly pulling and killing gamon like they used to and honest to god you rarely ever see bot ads but the game isn't dead.
But classic does you might say. That's because Classic players were actively seeking that out. Classic players actively WANTED that version of wow again and did what they could to create and keep it. Classic doesn't have shards servers are servers and if I remember correctly they basically just have like a mega server.
There is room for both and neither are dead. Hell based on this server Season of Discovery is dead but shit I see people there all the god damned time.
3 Major Rules of World of Warcraft Players:
1. No one on earth wants to play World of Warcraft less than other World of Warcraft players.
2. The desire to win>The desire for anything else in World of Warcraft. NO EXCEPTIONS
3. Efficiency will be king no matter how you think it will improve the game.
