Just human nature. People love drama. At least half the circus is at any time going "I hope he misses the trapeze and falls". And that's only further multiplied by the creation of narratives like the Concord Saga that makes people want to join the chorus and find some small measure of ersatz validation. The internet is increasingly adopting drama and controversy as mainstay entertainment.

It definitely is weird, and cringe, and kinda sad - but not in the least surprising. People like narratives, and those go both ways. They'll ride the elevator up with you - and they'll also cheer when you slip and fall down the shaft.

    Its not that deep:
Both Bungie and their owner Sony destroyed goodwill through their own actions.
Screwed customers now hope to dance on their graves.

In the case of bungie it's more about vengeance and wanting to see those who I feel wronged me suffer. I can list plenty of game companies here.

It can be specific, like with bungie, where I feel they just kept breaking promises over a decade while having a few highs and a LOT more lows while ALSO demonstrating they're perfectly capable of actually making something good and just refusing (I don't care why) to do it routinely. So, when I see them get bought for an absolutely ludicrous amount of money and then flounder it makes me feel good. "Serves ya'll right."

It can also be generalized, where I just want companies to focus more on my preferred genre, because video game dev is ABSOLUTELY an opportunity cost. The more the shit I like succeeds while other types of shit fails, the more companies will make shit I like. Selfish? Sure, but thems the breaks.

My interest in watching this fail has more to do with the catharsis I get from laughing at the hubris of megacorporation Sony paying way, way, wayyyyy too much for this studio. I played the demo weekend out of boredom and it's definitely not my cup of tea, but I can see it finding a niche audience. My opinion has actually become slightly less cynical as its clear there is still some of Bungie's OG fingerprints on this product.

To everyones, even my, surprise the game is still at 90% positive on steam.
I fucking hate extraction shooters but Marathon being loosely Marathon makes me feel weak.

the games great. theres something that makes me want to play again and again, just one more run, compared to tarkov and arc raiders in both which i got over 100hrs played each, but then stopped playing because it got boring/frustrating to navigate the stash etc. and ive got 60hrs played in marathon from previous tests alone

I bought it and I played a bit.
It's quite nice, and I'm not even a fan of extraction shooters.
I'm actually more interested in the story and the quest in this game.

Fighting NPCs is actually quite fun too.
Just confirming that this has the good gunfeel of a destiny game, and even better design of enemies.
They dash dodge, stealth, shieldup and push the shit out of you and smack you in the face.
Most singleplayer shooters would hope to have these enemies in their games.
Not *groundbreaking* awesome, but very, very solid.
Make 2-4 more variants of those with each of them having something special and you could have an absolute blast and probably would sell millions of copies if you turn it into a looter shooter.
Double or tripple it and you have multiple factions.

I still wish this were more of a PvE coop game than PvP.

The maps are relatively small compared to BR games etc., but large enough for multiple teams to do multiple things.

I think I can get 50+ hours out of it.
Also, I have no idea why anyone would spend money on this game other than the initial price.
Not because it's bad - but the skins are absolute nothing burgers and they can't go "crazy" because you still need to know what kind of classes you are fighting against.

I guess they could paywall new shells and stuff.

I wish I could play this game but no way to at the moment. Have to just watch streams.

I get the anger towards Bungie as a former Destiny player, but at the same time their devs did such a masterful job on the vibe, aesthetic, sound design, etc. It's one of the most unique games I've seen in a long, long time.

Still playing, still having lots of fun.
I guess I'll get more than 50h+ after all.

This will become quite unfun though once all the casuals are gone and only the sweat remains.

I remember people complaining about how there is so little PvP, I have no idea what game they are playing, but people are rushing to spawn points and you basically fight one or two teams in the first 1-2 minutes in the game, unless you activiely try to avoid them by going to places with no loot or activiely dodge enemies by running away as soon as you hear something or see something.

    I gotta say,
Killing people with purple shields when you only took a green with you is insanely difficult, especially if they use LMGs with the extra shields.
Unless of course you blast them with a shotgun from 1m, but I really dislike playing with weapons like these.
