all this talk about new professions when Blizzard barely knows what to do with the new ones we got.

Like shit they barely know what to do with Inscription, Archeology is just non existent and Jewelcrafting is literally the only new profession they added that actually has merit.

Wonder if the new Player Housing system has a chance to make Archaeology relevant again? Probably not.

Hopefully not. Archaeology is as boring and more annoying than fishing. The rewards are nice, but that's it. Hiding rewards behind something literally nobody finds engaging. At least fishing and gathering is something you can do semi afk. But archaeology is something you have to pay some attention to, even if you use addons to help you.

Without a major overhaul, the profession should stay abandoned.

What about Woodcutting? Chopping trees to make planks, and using said planks to make furniture?

I actually expect Woodcutting be the next gathering profession. Together with the profession you probably get a skill Sawing or Milling to convert logs into planks. Just like Smelting comes with Mining.

They specifically said no crafting profession. Lumber is a required material for that coffin. What other explanation is there besides adding a gathering or secondary (not crafting) profession to gather wood? The item is Rare, what are the chances it's a vendor item? Quest?

Significantly higher than a new gathering profession.

You're letting your wants get ahead of what the data say.

Consider one of the points they've brought up more than once during the various interviews about housing was to put trophies on your house, I would imagine stuff you find through archaeology would fit the bill pretty well.

They already talked about it. Every existing non-gathering profession will get furniture added for all expansions.
