You could debatably have said that was the case under Biden (and throughout various points in America’s past under numerous presidents.)
But it is that perception, accurate or not, that drives voters. Voters by and large and for good or for ill care waaaaay more about their pocketbooks than about any social cause or tentpole issue. It’s where Harris failed in 2024 and where the gop have failed here now.
Biden (and by extension Harris) were touting real, existent good metrics but the American people didn’t feel that was the case. Trump is touting fake, nonexistent metrics… and people aren’t believing him. Good Numbers in a disconnected speculative market weren’t enough to keep the train rolling on a scandal-free, competent officiant in the form of Biden/harris, so much so that a once-rejected convicted felon could promise the vaguest hint of economic relief in terms enough people didn’t understand (tariffs) to get swept into office to blight the world with his presence once more.
Trump has turned the American economy down a bad path for the vast majority of Americans and has neither the plan nor the aptitude nor even the care to do anything about it. If he has a hope to remain in power, it’s not going to be through lying so hard to voters (that aren’t his sycophants, before some smartass tries bringing up how “well they won’t care!”) that they just forget about rising inflation and depressed wages and a bad job market, something they’re directly feeling. It would have to come down to pure ratfuckery.

Trump was on FOX News *ding* today, or more reasonably FOX News showed him claiming he had a plan to bring grocery costs down.
I saw about 5 seconds of it and know there is no such plan. I'm not even going to bother finding the video/transcript to demonstrate that. For someone who illegally withholding SNAP and also refusing to let grocery stores give SNAP discounts, if he was concerned about starving Americans he had options he would have used before he lost Tuesday's elections for his own party. I am not sure what his options are, except of course removing tariffs, the thing he's telling SCOTUS and the world are needed for National Security Lol, so I don't see that happening.
I am, of course, kidding. It was this right here:
I recommend the 11 minute mark. Just after Trump says gasoline prices are the lowest in two decades-
"They are?"
No they're fucking not. Trump says so right here in this dot-gov site. They were lower during Obama, they were lower during COVID, Trump just flat-out lied.
Anyhow past that, what FOX News said was his plan was "Wal-Mart's Thanksgiving menu".
No, really.
"I saw that, it's on Wal-Mart.com right now, a meal for ten for $40. Is that really lower than 2024?"Grocery prices are way down in Walmart. Walmart just announced that the cost of their standard Thanksgiving meal, this is the greatest, the greatest,
they're wonderful. They come out every year with, "how much is the Thanksgiving meal cost compared to last year, right?" And it always goes up, up, up. It's 40% 30% more. It's 25% lower than one year ago. Isn't that great? A big deal. Care about that in. The last...we got the princess here from Saudi Arabia. She's got a lot of cash. Serious cash, and she's a great person. So, she doesn't care about the price of a turkey is down a little bit, you know, just have to worry about...
(befuddled silence)
Since March the price of eggs is down. 85%. Energy. prices are down interest rates are down, Despite the fact that we have a total nincompoop at the Federal Reserve that was recommended by 1 of my real great people, who I never spoke to again. And the cost of the typical new mortgage is down by nearly $3,000 a year. Day by day, we're making America affordable again. It's going to be affordable again.
See, that's the thing. FOX News has that, too *ding*
Uh, whoops. Looks like Biden dropped the price, too. It didn't go up every year. Oh, I guess Trump lied. How embarrassing.Walmart is offering an "inflation-free Thanksgiving meal" priced at under $7 per person, the company said in an Oct. 17 release. This is lower than last year's meal, Walmart said.
The Wal-Mart Thanksgiving meal is already a subject of ridicule, but it's also documented. I found it here easily. Feel free to compare them side by side. I did, and I crossed off everything in 2024 that's missing from 2025.

Fresh Whole Sweet Potatoes (3 units)
Fresh Yellow Onions (1 unit - 3lbs)
Fresh Celery Stalks (1 unit) ...to here replaced with 2 boxes Stove Top Stuffing, 2x6oz
Added 3 boxes Great Value Mac and Cheese
"Hey, the turkey was less per pound in 2024! I thought Trump said the price was down?"
Yeah, $0.89/pound in 2024 instead of $0.97/pound in 2025 is not down. But it is officially Butterball now, if that matters.
"Don't both Stove Top Stuffing and Great Value Mac and Cheese require butter, which this basket lacks?"
Yes.
"How do you make cranberry sauce and/or relish?"
With ingredients the bag lacks. Granted, making jellied cranberry sauce basically needs just extra sugar and water, which a lot of kitchens have.
"What's the cream of mushroom soup for?"
It's for making green bean casserole. The onions go on top. There's...kind of enough soup and enough onions for three cans of beans.
So the price is lower because they replaced the ingredients to make several pounds of stuffing with enough boxes to make 12 ounces, let me remind you that's for ten people, that you make in the microwave. The sweet potatoes and the marshmallows for them are gone. And they took one of the pies and the whipped cream.
And Trump brags that it's lower. Because he's a liar.
"Did Trump say mortgages were down three thousand dollars a year?"
Housing prices are dropping because of supply and demand. That's not something to brag about. It's like saying you are spending less on food because you didn't buy side dishes or dessert.
"Did Trump say the price of eggs is down 85%?"
Yes, he lied about that, too. Prices are down, they are halved from the spike in March, they are now the same price as election day 2024 when Trump said they were too high. They are, in fact, higher than every day of Trump's first term and the non-bird-flu-spike of Biden's term. If they were 85% lower, as Trump claims, they'd be $1/dozen right now. That's false.
"Did Trump say energy prices are down?"
Yeah, I covered that in an earlier post. He's lying about that, too.
"Did Trump say-"
Look, the entire speech is full of lies, okay? Trump lies all the time about everything.
"He did not-"So when they rigged the election, I said oh man, I have to run again because I want to be president when they have the World Cup, right?
Starts at 42 minutes.
"Where is that number from?"We're not going to pay 1.5 billion for people that came into our country illegally, okay?
His enormous ass. That's three times the population of South America. Or, all of Africa. Like, literally, every single person in the entire continent. Somehow, that's how many came here. According to Trump.
The video is an hour long. Don't waste your brain cells on it. There's nothing there that's both new information and also honest. Trump just wanted to shake off the damage he pretends wasn't his fault to the party, get on camera, and only FOX News had the gall to televise it.

We all know that it's easier to criticize than to explain. Republicans exploited this advantage in 2024, calling Biden's economy a disaster when, in fact, the economy was in better shape with a job market much stronger than it is currently. Biden and Harris simply did a poor job explaining it. This time around Democrats actually have an enormous catalogue of valid criticisms of Donald Trump and the GOP to choose from. Unless the economy somehow undergoes a spontaneous transformation, Republicans are in a bad place.
Democrats are indeed winning bigly in these small elections.
I still don't have full confidence that Project 2025 won't rear its head against elections come 2026 especially with Trump talking about deploying the national guard to all states by then. Like imagine everything seeming to go fine, everyone gets to vote, and a huge Dem victory is expected, a massive blue wave, because of these elections. Then all of a sudden MAGA wins over half the stuff projected to be Dem, and everyone sits around dumbfounded going "How could this happen!?" without ever thinking that our big elections that truly matter are probably compromised.

Doomposting over military takeover of elections seems silly for multiple reasons.
1) He has yet to successfully deploy the national guard to do anything besides stand around on federal owned property for photo shoots.
and
2) The national guard is not just republican voters
lol
I remember when everyone was SURE of a Kamala landslide victory, they'd once and for all show the world that America doesn't want Trump! I kept posting cautions that I didn't think it would go so smoothly and Trump might even win because of Elon and the Trump faction working overtime to make contacts in local governments, and people called me a doomposter for it.
And then it was all blank stares when the results rolled in, "How could this possibly happen?!"
Did people even read a summary of Project 2025 and what they'd do to hold power?

You're misremembering history more than just a little, boyo.
I don't recall very many people being so sure about a victory, let alone a landslide.
Most of us were hopeful, maybe even somewhat optimistic, but definitely not sure.
And Trump didn't win because of Project 2025 or shady contacts with local politicians, he won because too many people who should have known better acted stupidly in the face of their recent economic uncertainty.
It was, yet again, a relatively narrow victory.

Harris lost because of the economy, racism, her pivot, and Biden’s ego refusing to drop out in time for a primary without him.
Remember the Teamsters Union backed Biden then when he dropped they backed Trump by their own polling.
So, her gender worked against her and her race worked against her. Have to remember just how many voters in the US are still 55+ and just what views that generation adopted. They might not be as vocal about them but that doesn’t mean many of them stopped having them.
Then you had Biden just piling on by refusing to drop out.
Then, on top of ALL that, you had her pivot to her right hoping to woo the republicans who were actually even more racist and prejudice at the expense of her left flank who have been dying for a candidate to actually give them something to support.
I was warning some of my nieces friend that was dead sure she would win not to get his hopes up because of all those. Hoped he was right and I was just being too cautious but I ended up seeing what I worried about being true.

Given Mamdani is one of those dreaded immigrants that they hate, I'm half surprised they didn't send ICE after him and try and throw him out of the country.
I'd bet they almost certainly discussed doing it though.
