Its funny I need to hear about a new Diablo 4 expansion from a fairly inactive site like MMOC, instead of from the D4 steam page.
Blizzard is dropping a ball here.

Diablo IV, what a terrible game with the name of one of the best I have ever played: Diablo 2 LOD. I never expected to see my favorite game sink into a new level of bad. And be twisted into a horrible game that i would never touch. Just by watching Diablo IV cinematics, makes want to puke.
Wow, 3 pieces of decor! Why not the paladin from the trailer as tmog?
I haven't bought Midnight yet ... and I am still thinking if I will. This player house focus feels like WoW's gone into the SIMS place and it's not coming back.
Ofc I am exagerating .. but still, not preordering yet it's not a good sign.
sims has this one thing that the housing lacks and it's, well.. sims. housing is housing and you can express yourself or you can let it be. since neighbourhoods don't look like they would have major raids or invasions, they are totally optional content. and i don't know any internal stuff at blizzard, but i'm fairly sure that the housing team isn't responsible for any of the "normal" expansion areas.
people also didn't like garrisons or pet battles, fearing the game would lock itself in a strange world - yet we are still here as always.
From Ancient Terra the Emperor commands His Proud Sons.
From revered Blood-stock these Warriors are made His Proud Sons.
No fear they shall know as Adeptus Astartes, His Proud Sons.
It's a new feature that just came out, so obv they want to promote it.
And no WoW isn't turning into Sims lol. Like it's not even Midnight and housing is already straight up dead for 95% of the playerbase. It's just a thing like pet battles, completely optional and it plays no role in the design of the core gameplay (unlike transmogs)

Is it because of the gameplay, the concept of seasons, the story or the gore?
I mainly didn't buy it so far, becaue I feel I don't have enough time to play it - but would consider it if there was an overarching story and quests that one can play through once. Not interested in a "rush to max level and then just farm the same endgame over and over"
Or in what way would you say it twisted D2? I am in the same boat as you. I really, really loved D2 and the x-pc.

Blizz: People have been screaming for the return of the Paladin. Let's re-launch this class as a "new" feature! Hell yeah.

Hyperbole.
Housing is an optional thing you can absolutely not engage with at all and miss nothing.

Except it is effectively a new class, rebuilt from the ground up for the current game with new spells, new visuals and sounds, new customization, new armors, etc.
And the inclusion of the class itself is a new feature to D4. So yeah... new.
a lot of people here are underestimating how much of an impact housing is going to be once midnight hits. youre absolutely right in that its going to change and pivot WoW away from its original heart and soul forever and it wont be coming back. for better or for worse, housing will be the new priority or 2nd priority of the game.

Literally untrue for miles, lmao. Housing is pretty much all anyone is doing right now. Hell, my mythic raiding team was nearly half empty this past weekend because people were busy with housing. No one is running M+ because of housing, lmao.

Considering they wanted housing in for vanilla, it seems that it will more align it with its original heart than what we got.

I really want the chess set and altar, but not enough to buy that game. Maybe I’ll convert some gold or something, but even then I will probably never play D4 again after the couple weeks I played from the initial launch.
