The real problem here relies on the fact that people are buying out of pure addiction to the game, and because of that, games are now designed on this pattern....to milk people wallets. We already have enough games like that, example: ESO with their crates, crowns and a big store charged with goods that are virtual. Same thing with FF14.
Why are you guys doing this to yourselves?. Do you really enjoy wasting money like that?. Is a virtual good, you can't even touch it. If this keep up like this, games are going to be more and more designed to be profitable than fun, and with an aim to be more addictive.

Is addiction dude, you are not buying a new Video card or a motherboard. You are buying a virtual good, nothing that you can touch or have any value at all, other than in the game. Just look at the prices right now for Midnight. You guys are getting robbed with those prices. And before you come to me with "It's my money", "I have enough money for that and more"...stop playing stupid. The only one that is getting hurt is yourself. I'm not paying that much for a silly video game. My life is not based on what I do in WoW. And you guys should get help if you are burning money like that for a game, any game that does this kind of predatory practices.

You nailed it, dude. Good to see someone with common sense. I'm starting to believe these guys are 15yo-18yo, if they think they can keep up burning money like that. I would have got a new car, nice clothes or even one of those new cool smart watches, than buying a stupid mount in WoW.

Yea, I play the game because I have been doing that for years, but really...I'm not going to burn money on it, if I have other priorities in life. Is just a game, a hobby, not a job or a life achievement.
So here's something I've noticed in my [REDACTED] years on this god forsaken planet.

People like to flaunt. Its ingrained in our culture. "Look at my jewelry, I have MONEY". "Look at my car, I have MONEY". "Look at my house. I have MONEY".

The same can be applied to an online game.

"Look at my THUNDERFURY, BLESSED BLADE OF THE WINDSEEKER"
"Look at my TIER THREE GEAR"
    "Look at this MOUNT"

What I don't get is the people that are OK with "Look at this collection of SHOES" but not ok with "Look at this MOUNT I bought from Blizzard Store" or "Look at this CHARACTER SKIN I bought from Riot". In a lot of predominantly Asian cultures, these store purchases are considered status symbols and a show of personal wealth. Personally, I don't get the whole shoe collecting thing but others do and that's cool. You do you boo.

And then there's the "Why do you care how other people spend their money" angle that people always seem to dance around. That's a talk for a different day though.

Anyways, as someone that's been here subbed since 9/05 I've straight up lost track on how much $ I've thrown at Blizzard, between subs, expansions, services, and the store. And I really don't care how other people spend their $$$ at Blizzard.
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

Just a burned out hardcore raider turned casual.
I'm tired. So very tired. Can I just lay my head on your lap and fall asleep?

Out of the very long post...THIS is the only thing that matters. And nothing along the lines of "you guys should..." does.

Is like having the Cybertruck. Is ugly and weird but....is a status symbol of wealth. Because not everyone is able to have one. But at least one thing is the true, the people who pay for those trucks are rich. Super rich. So the cost of that truck is not a big hit for them

But the problem here is, that I don't think these guys are rich or super rich. I bet most of them are employees or working in their own small business. What ever the reason is....80 bucks for a virtual mount is just a waste in a new level never seen before. Is just to show up in a video game, with other people, that you have X mount and they don't.

Again, its up to them, but for me and many other people around, is just a waste of money, linked to addiction.

Yeah which makes it even crazier today how some people keep failing such an easy task. Pre-nerf Maggy was such a pain as a RL in Classic TBC, because out of the 20 people that need to click the cube there were almost always 1-3 people who could not do it right. We always needed the 4 backup players somehow.... as a semi-hardcore guild.

Well, if you put it like in the sentence below, we are pretty close. Don't get me wrong, buying boosts, cosmetics, mounts..especially the Brutosaur is also a waste of money to me. Wouldn't do it.

Exactly. It's up to you. But if the level of addiction goes to the point you are gambling your money like that...now that is a problem. Same goes to ESO players who pays for Crates, FF14 story/level boosts and WoW store mounts. Is pure dopamine addiction, that needs help from professionals

My piece of advice is to give up trying to have some sort of discussion with them, as you'd get more logical replies out of a plank of wood. Just look at their reply to this same post, completely ignoring the fact you just called him out on a lie and instead trying to spin it into something about addiction again.

We are still talking boost and mounts, right? Where does money gambling come into that?

And honestly...even if you want to call it that - then let us be equal on all fronts. Stop sports gambling / betting. Stop casinos. Stop Lotteries. Ban alcohol.

Even if this is a gaming forum - if you suggest professional help, you need to look what happens in the real world and beyond...where true professional help would be served better - and it is hardly available anyhow. As a clever person once said: It is easier to get drugs than to get an appointment with a therapist.

Well yeah. For now I am glad this is going a civilized way. I was tempted to answer to the claims how one should rather buy a car or a watch and how saving on WoW services would make that possible...or how a Cybertruck is for the extremely rich.

But I would be presuming things about other people and I am all the time about not doing that. Funnily I don't even have a car and a Cybertruck at ca 70 000 Euros is...like so many cars hardly for the rich. In fact, new cars are losing money very fast...it would be clever to buy used cars. And if there is a status symbol...then cars are one....and in so many cases a waste of money indeed. Don't even get me started on exessive amounts of clothes, buying a new smartphone every year or paying crazy amounts for football tickets. The list goes on - (and while I said I wouldn't talk about it, guess I just did )

I don't judge the people who do the things above, I don't judge people who buy WoW services. Though I (think I) understand why they do it...to whatever degree it is possible to understand strangers.

In ESO, Crown Crates. I mention that before. Those drops mounts, emotes, skins, etc. Pure gambling.

The problem here, is that you consider, super normal for a virtual mount to cost 80 bucks or 40 bucks. You get upset that someone else point that out.

Gaming industry today predatory practices are disgusting. The FOMO is impressive, along with unhealthy gaming practices promoted by video game companies. But like I said, I take care of myself, my money and my time. If someone else find it exciting to waste 80 bucks in a mount, it's up to him/her.

Its not solely rich buying expensive cars. Ive seen guys starve to buy a bigger car to flex with. Not too common since it takes discipline saving money living at minimum many years but not a single instance either. And then you have gucci bags, supreme, ... the general social dynamic is many attempt to look rich buying crap outside their budget range.

Same is also what ive observed with wow. Initially i thought wallet warriors were old gamers buying what the career prevented to earn playing but i found its often the opposite and half the people buying boosts are just irl losers wanting at least to have a win in the game.

Are you guys crazy?. For some silly cosmetics you are going to burn $40 and $80 bucks?.
No wonder why Blizzard can keep getting away with this over and over again. You guys let Blizzard take your wallet and milk it. This is stupid. Also, this is a new level of addiction, why are you guys playing BC again...you already had BC Classic and the original version, before.

Now I understand why Asmongold never play WoW these days. I bet he is going to make a video making fun of this. How do he call people who pays 80 bucks for a mount...? You guys know it.
    cosmetics?
40 bucks gets you a netherdrake, and phase hunter mount, a pet, and a toy in retail and classic
40 more bucks gets you a month of wow and a 58 boost, hardly cosmetic

Yeah, it is getting bad...especially bad in so-called F2P where people have spend thousands of dollars etc - games that are basically build to attract a few whales that want to rule the game.

Other than that - maybe it is my age...but I grew up in a time where we understood that you just cannot have everything. I also learned that I will not ruin myself financially for a status symbol.

But apparently the convinience and time saved is worth it to some people...so who am I to judge.
I spend my money how I see fit. its insane that people think their opinion matters, I have no time/care to relevel through classic, neither does the wife, we'll be buying 2 heroic copies so we can jump right in. fight me.
