    New headphones.

I currently have the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x since forever and they very much need replacing now. Any suggestions? budget is £150, usage for everything - Games, music & movies.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for a headset, Just a good set of open back studio/audiophile headphones that will work for gaming too.

A few things would help here.

First one I would ask is where you happy with the sound of the ATH-M40x? Like the highs and the lows?

Next is what do you have powering them. Is this just a plug into the motherboard or front of the case/phone type of power? Or do you have a DAC/AMP?

Have a look at Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, the standard ones are £139 on Amazon, but if you can stretch the budget to £190 the X version are a worthwhile upgrade by all accounts.
Here is a review of the X

They will be plugged in to SoundblasterX soundcard so no AMP. Not happy with my MX40x's compared to my Sony wh-1000xm4 headphones but I only use them for travelling.

I used to have a Soundblaster X in my gaming PC, does your card have the adjustment for headphone impendence in the soundblaster app? If it does it can drive pretty decent headphones no problem. These higher Ohm headphones would be a very good match and far better than the Sony's: Beyerdynamic 990 PRO 250 Ohm

It turns out that my headphones wont be plugged in to my Soundblaster sound card because it doesn't fit in my new PC lol. Back to the drawing board on a new problem, haha.

If we're recommending something, then well, I'm gonna throw the hd599's on the table.
I'm not sure but they should actually work fine on whatever you power them with. Obv. a separate DAC or DAC/AMP (DACs themselves actually have some sort of amp mostly anyway) should be fine.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

This was going to be my strong suggestion too.

To the OP, the big thing here is just look at the ohms the soundblaster you have can push. Generally it just means you will have to volume up a bit more than usual if its a bit over which isn't a problem unless you already full blast your cans, but if you like.. go way way over in the ohms on the cans to power push than it will obviously be really silent and honestly.. unless you are getting a ton of white sound in your set (doubtful) than it just usually ends up tossing more money at a problem you probably don't have.
