And as I said before (in another of your topics, I'm guessing), my first death on a HC server was because of some dipshit kiting mobs over me. So it's weird to me that people act like that kind of thing is unheard of there. There's no magic server type that only attracts 'the good ones' players. You're gonna have trolls on HC, douchebags etc, same as any other WoW mode.

As for how important it is to me? Not much, if at all. Because there's too many things outside of our control that can cost us our characters. Latency, lag spike, power outage, internet outage, pricks being pricks, DDoS attacks, you name it.

It's already a hassle when those things cause a death on regular realms. A death that it is permanent and costs hours or weeks of progress? That's salt in the wound.
I think it enhances the Classic feel because it makes you care about a lot of things you more commonly cared about back in the day, like every little upgrade mattering, communicating with your party in group content, or carrying consumables. YMMV depending on your priorities and interests.

It's the best classic experience... until you die.
I got lucky and got to 60 by playing carefully with an easy to survive class (Paladin) but if I died at level +50 I'd have hated it lol. It was my first time playing classic as well, so the sense of wonder was doubled.

    I loved the whole thing.

There is still a very high chance for death if you put your character in the right situations. There are many raid fights where petri doesn't even work. There are many fights where you just take one-shots before even having time reacting and could press petri. Especially in TBC dungeons and raids. Without petri it wouldn't even have been possible to make it to Naxx. You simply need it there.
I see no-petri challenges as content creator territory. It makes things a lot more interesting for viewers, but people who've actually played HC a bit needs it.

In any case, you'll half get your wish in TBC as it only works agains physical damage there.

It's also because HC servers tend to be anathema to bots. I'm sure botting is still done, but the methods of leveling, the restrictions on dungeon spamming, and the nature of a death being a permanent loss of that toon discourages botting.

And since people are constantly leveling new toons, the economy in general works better. Gold inflation is less dire because of the much lower botting activity, and items of pretty much all levels are always in demand.

I think the SoD concept could achieve *most* of this, too, so it's not like it's a hard requirement for it to all be HC. But without HC, botting will be a constant problem to be managed, which Blizz clearly ain't interested in doing.

I spent some time in the TBC HC community and had a good time, but like HC before we had official servers, it's very much a streamer egomania show. Streamer(s) make all the rules and decisions and the rest of us have to live with it. I went my separate way after I got muted for 8 hours after directly arguing with the egomaniac in charge, and that kind of killed my interest in continuing further. I might return in a few months to finish my SSF toon, but with how bad botting is in TBC in general, I don't have much interest in trying to join my Mists guild (which moved into TBC once it became available and interest in Mists began to die off) in normal/softcore play. I've already seen enough complaining from them about how hard it is to just get basic materials for crafting due to the density of botting activity. Plus Blizz is once again seemingly ignoring PvP, so that's another gameplay element removed from consideration.

I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy HC as much as I do, but it definitely enhances that 'Classic' vibe. It forces you to actually use your full toolkit and professions instead of just mindlessly grinding. The point about people being more considerate is huge, too—the griefing is way lower when everyone has skin in the game. Great shout on the Ghostcrawler interview, definitely worth a watch!

It was fun at first but I discovered I don't have the patience to deal with the loss of progress.

What do you mean "people are more considerate?" I remember this forums being flooded by complaints about mobs being trailer, people griefing on purpose and rogues waiting in stealth for newbies for hours on end, lol. People are ass regardless of the environment you put them in, because the environment is not the problem.

As for me, I got to max level and quit 5 minutes after that. It took me a long time to get to that point and honestly the time investment is too stupidly high to risk it further in dungeons/raids, where you are forced to trust other people and most of your planning goes out the window if you get a bad healer/tank. I commend people that can die in Naxxramas and go agane but I sure as heck do NOT envy them lol

I liked it, yeah. But not something I would do lots of times. Its just too slow The idea is cool, so for those who enjoys the slower pace that classic provides, HC is a nice supplement.
