From an artistic perspective, I think cataclysm is a bit washed out of that makes sense. So fair, I was clicking around and didn't notice what I was responding to as far as thread title.

Firelands specifically I remember not being nearly as vivid as I expected considering the contrasting colors, it's like they're intentionally more muted. And this was something the entire expansion was guilty of

I didn't hate Shadowlands. I thought Cata was way worse and WoD was simply abandoned.

What sucked about Shadowlands was the insane cosmetics grind, but other than that I thought it had a lot of good and varied content.

I think that would've been even worse. To remove the old version entirely. Especially to replace it with a bastardized version. That was one of the biggest complaints about Cataclysm - the complete removal of the old world. Although with the changing of the voice lines I don't feel like going back to the old Silvermoon on the retail servers either honestly.

I really hope we get some sort of permanent TBC/Wrath or whatever legacy server so that we can always go back and revisit Silvermoon in all its original glory.
They wouldn't remove it entirely there would still be the bronze dragons that let you go back into the old version, but you would phase into either the new version or the old version depending on what you're level is and could always switch to the other one by speaking to the bronze dragon, which is the same as how it is with Darkshore, and there wouldn't be 2 portals going to the same place which is a silly thing to implement into the game, similarly to how a lot of things in Cata were silly.

    Also Pandaria is great tbh.

Yeah they should implement that Netherstorm island and have us go there and do something, if Draenor is still accessible storywise.

It's definitely the one I've worried the most about classes and the future of the game.

I believe we were at peak (modern expansions) feeling for many classes and they went WAY too far with the pruning. I am beyond sad with current Holy priest and I don't have hope for them going back, the reasons being:

1: cleaner UI and wanting to step away from add-ons which I'm totally down for

2: the real one imo: make it controller accesible.

SL was an abysmal time in the game but not because of the mogs. It had several great sets and a couple of nice zones.

Cata mogs were almost all terrible, which is ironic given that's when transmog was added to the game. I still think MoP outdoes it but I think I'm biased because I vividly recall in Remix looking at them and not being excited to grind a single one. The only mogs from that time that anyone ever uses today are the PVP glows and Challenge Mode sets (albeit even then just the paladin one).

I just appreciate expansions with a relative consistent style more than anything. Expansions that aren't afraid to fuck around with color.

Vash'Jir is too date my favorite zone of all time because it's the most artistic, the most interesting.

Whereas everything else from Cata is bleh and bland/washed out, un-ambitious. It is striking next to Wotlk which had the ambience down. It had style, and consistency. MoP had that consistency as well, and a defined style.

The art team has always sandbagged the product, actually. WoW always has and always will look like complete dog shit. Classic graphics are abysmal for the year they were released and the modern models look like primitive low resolution Pixar direct to DVD sequels in pre-vis.

But this is the first expansion where the look of the zones has actually been appealing to me, huge fan of ZA and Harandar and redone Silvermoon is an enormous upgrade.

So a polished turd, as it were.

Hey it's Shadow! My son loved Sonic, we often have a debate about who's better Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic. I'm camp Classic btw.

Srsly though. I dig Cata. I loved most of the changes and zones and whenever I make a new toon I most often choose Cata as my Chromie-Time. I love the idea of a post-apocalyptic / cataclysmic world where we have to rebuild and such.

OMG I love Vash'ir. Check my earlier posts in this thread. I literally before reading this thread made a new Rogue and was taking him through Vash'ir. I always thought the music was kind of reminiscent of those musical moments in a James bond movie when they do an underwater scene, like from Thunderball or Never Say Never Again.

Think it looks fantastic to me so far. Zul'Aman looks incredible - recognisably troll but with a distinct cultural aesthetic. The update to Silvermoon is stunning, and I say this as someone who is not mad on the whole blood elf look. All the void stuff is really cool, with some unique creatures we haven't seen before. Tonnes of interesting new mounts, and the tier sets are generally incredible. As someone who wasn't particularly keen on the aesthetics in TWW, Midnight looks much more appealing to me at least from a visual standpoint.

I think they were trying to go for a kind of titan-inspired look with Chinese/Pandaren influences, but they just looked ugly. The only half decent ones were the monk and death knight sets. The hunter one was an abomination.

TBF, tmog was added in 4.3, at the end of Cata.

I actually liked Cataclysm's arty style, and always liked Twilight Hammer stuff. -shrug-

    ...it was WoD for me.
So much of the same boring palates everywhere, too much focus on just orcs, and the sets just sucked. Hard.
