You uh, realize that Blizzard doesn't make money from people scalping, right?

I doubt Metzen is twirling his moustache going "Yes... ANOTHER promotion! All part of my plan to get people to spend hundreds of dollars on ebay accounts run by random dickheads!"
confirmed by my uncle nitnendo and masahiro samurai

A bit random for someone at Blizzard to wake up one day and decide to hand an exclusive mount to 3000 Germans.

The VPN bullshit took the website down. That and probably someone salty enough to buy DDOS bots.

Well, for the people that won't pay 200 Bucks for the mount on Ebay or didn't get one of the 3000 codes, they're going to be putting the mount from this on the Trading Post.

People like to shit on Blizzard for their shop ... or Lego for their prices - and then we find out scalpers (aka actual people) can be even worse. But why do you pin this on Blizzard? Well, I guess they could make promotions in a way that the codes cannot be traded...though I don't know if my ideas how to do it would work.

I guess these people sell the codes they got?

Well, making things exclusive to China is also not making people happy.

In an effort to calm the tides, Blizz made a post about how they plan to put promotional mounts on the trading post "[...] at a later date in the Trading Post, and if we deviate from that plan, we’ll let you know." - which means basically nothing. In ten years is still at a later date. Or they just decide to deviate and let us know.

This entire issue is created by whichever intern is running this. He crawled from under a rock yesterday, has never heard of the globally connected Internet, never watched a NordVPN ad and thinks there is only one email per person.

Scalpers are just a symptom of demand being higher than supply. Who would have guessed that 3000 geofenced codes will cause issues with a FOMO oriented community of collectors!

There is an easy solution: do not limit promotional items. The previous Pringles promotion with the bow tie is a great example. Yes, that is technically also geofenced, but there is no limit to it. So you can either use whatever VPN you have to get one yourself or you pay a "scalper" 2 bucks and buy a code.

    #edit:
Their site was scheduled to be back 1.5 hours ago but still had the same disconnect issues. Now the statement says it will be fully reworked and come with a different distribution system. More next week.

We had planned a restart at 1 pm today.
    That's not happening.

Massive attention and targeted hacker attacks since 16th.

The mount is for the community, not for bots and scalpers.
We are reworking the distribution so it stays fair(tm).

New start date 2 days in advance on instagram. More news next week.
    Peace.

Yep, saw it yesterday and was tempted to update my post. Making a promotion limited is indeed weird. Especially here with a ground mount and us having over 1000 mounts to collect already.

Not knowing who decided on the 3000 limit i could easily see it being on either side. Pringles or Microsoft.
"Get the super exclusive, rare, one of a kind (sort of) PRINGLES elepahnt or whatever, show eveyone how much you love PRINGLES in game, its so cool and awesome just like PRINGLES!"

Some magic cards are rare because they're old and most have been lost, some are rare because the people in charge see how much people pay for, and talk about, rare stuff so they just print 10 "super rare" fireball fancy art cards so collecters will go nuts and the tiktoks will be viral, giving them more eyes on their product.
    I'ts not just safe, it's 40% safe.
