don't close topics because you do not like OP

I've found that moderators usually provides good and simple reasons to close topics. But the most recent case I've encountered was "I'm closing this because the OP obviously has no desire to argue anything in good faith here.".

Which is very problematic to me as it isn't a proper reason on a cinema/books/etc. subforum to close the topic. Other people were discussing this and the rule goes like this, if there's already a thread for X movie, don't create a new one. if OP was problematic, it seems like a warning/sanction directed at OP was the correct way to address the issue

If you felt that the thread was not going on a good track then I would have been much more receptive to something pragmatical like I've seen many times. "Topic is based on rumours and we've seen numerous times too much negativity and seldom constructive analysis emerge from these. Closing it before derailing into other topics that can be discussed in their own threads."

The way it was done feels dangerous as it doesn't seem based on reality to me what you've described about OP, they showed interest and skepticism. And second, this message only validates and encourages people that are condescending with OP.

I don't think it was who the OP was, it was OP crying about women again.

It was not a thread to discuss a movie in good faith. It started with OP stating that Colbert and his son would be co-writing the movie script, so it had to be shit.
That never leads to a good thread here, especially since the views of OP are, to say it nicely, a tad problematic.

frankly in that linked "topic" there was no topic to discus, it was a blogpost, "i dont like who will write this movie", he did not even TRY to formulate it like discusion...
like, okay, write that on your blog, not on discusion forum, mod was 1000% right to close that...

Online harassment is a real issue, let it be on a medium that hosts millions, thousands or a few hundred of active users. I would imagine moderators are taking this more seriously than you are.

Honestly, if you know the rules so well, you should also know the one where you are not supposed to discuss mod decisions in public. The option is to contact them directly via for example a pm.

Starting a thread on forums about moderation is against our forum rules. If you have an issue with moderation, take it up with a blue (global) moderator, and they will help you or explain why a certain was done.

    Closing this here.
