No, they're not. "Disrespecting the character in-universe" in no way, shape or form is connected to "disrespecting the player".

Again, this is a "you" problem with your snowflakeness.

Not having portal to somewhere can be treated as disrespecting player character too.
Not having a portal is neither "disrespecting the character" or "disrespecting the player". If you feel personally "disrespected" because Blizzard is not catering to every single one of your specific, personal whims, this isn't them "disrespecting the players".

The last time my character (Human Paladin) has been aknowledged in a cool way was Lothraxion in Voidstorm, where he refers to me as highlord and says he's losing the big respect he had for me or something like that. I'm sure this is a paladin exclusive text, maybe even exclusive to paladins that played the legion paladin order hall. This should happen more often and my character should feel active during ingame cutscenes, which are the most common type of cutscenes now and they have the benefit of being able to show your character there, but he's always on the background anyway.

I'll be more straight. My WOD example was about that "You're now commander and dogs**t is now collected by followers". This is level of respect, expected after saving world from dozen of evils.

No, in WoD we have the player character sifting through poop on their own, no quest needed: Rooby's Roo

This is level of respect, expected after saving world from dozen of evils.
This is not disrespect to the player, or even the character. None of those quests are main quests, even, and you can simply not do them and still progress with the expansions' storylines.

    Why should we be?

We're the equivalent of Seal Team 6, while characters like Anduin and Gallywix are like Obama and Trump.

There's the occasional nod to the PC here and there, but for the most part we're pretty insignificant compared to characters like Thrall, Alleria, or Xala'toes
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

Just a burned out hardcore raider turned casual.
I'm tired. So very tired. Can I just lay my head on your lap and fall asleep?

If we're talking headcanon RP, like the kind you just sorta indirectly daydream about while playing (I am not in any RP realms or guilds) then no, none of my characters did ALL of those things.

My troll priest in my own headcanon did the entirety of vanilla questing, did not go to Outland (no reason to), participated in ulduar, Zul'drak and the tournament but never entered ICC. His next Canon event was the liberation of echo Isles from zalazane, he then retired through Cataclysm while my Orc Shaman and Tauren Paladin become the heroes of Cataclysm to WoD. By Legion, my Priest is pulled out of retirement to grab Xal'atath, and did not go to shadowlands - my Death Knight did. In fact only my DK knows about the events of Shadowlands, but hes so quiet and brooding none of my other PCs ask abt it.
They all stayed home while my evoker did dragon Isles. Then my Priest handled TWW because he has among my characters the only history with Xal, now my Priest is my main in Midnight.
My main's only relevant "lore" kill was Argus campaign, my DK has the lore kill on Janitor. None of my characters canonically killed Ragnaros, Illidan, Arthas, Deathwing, Lei Shen, Archimonde (hell none of my characters canonically entered WoD, it was all a dream)

I don't get it, Val. You want the player character to be regarded as a god? That's the very reason why people got so tired of our current status as heroes and champions. When everyone is - no one is.

I believe you should only get esteem by the amount of achievments you accomplished, or something like that, so that not everyone would be treated the same.

the protagonists in mmos are basically groups of adventurers in the story from various races and classes, that all participate together in the events, sometimes on their own, sometimes as groups, and they are called in different names, like wow uses adventurers, swtor uses outlanders etc, they are not above the established lore characters that lead the campaigns (like tirion in wotlk for example), they are more like complementary assistants to them,

and other than that, like in real life, most people do not care enough to respect or consider in high regard someone who has done a lot of stuff but is not directly related to them, the npcs go on their things and react accordingly to their respective mood
