    Moonkin leveling talents

    Hello.

I have played Feral and Restoration for a long long time. Both in PvE and in PvP. But I have always wanted to try Doomkin spec! So I wanted to try to level to 80 with it, but don't know where to put talents as I have never been Balance before.

WotLK seems like the perfect time to try it out. I don't have the gear, but I have healing, which will be spellpower gear in the expansion and Balance has got some nice talents.

So, could anyone give me advice to balance, and maybe even a link to a leveling spec?

I have many Boomkin friends and for what they and me have discusses this would be a good balance spec:

That seens like a pvp specc, if it is, on pvp its not worth having Earth and Moon.

Take those points out of there and put somewere viable like natures reach, dreamstate or bramble

    Re: Moonkin leveling talents

going by http://www.mmo-champion.com/talent/?druid the talents have been changed around quite a lot. My friend has a Boomkin and played as balance from his first talent point. the idea is basicly get everything that reduces your cast time, adds critical chance and damage. Aswell include the Dreamstate talent as mana regen really will help lower your down time while leveling.

The Essentials are in the list below. It is really pretty staight forward.

    Starlight Wrath
    Vengeance
    Moonfury
    Dreamstate
    Improved Mookin Form
    Owlkin Frenzy
    Typhoon
    Force of Nature

Idea is lowest downtime possible, and fastest downing of targets. If you plan on leveling 70-80 i suggest full balance, though you could always get Omen of Clarity. GL
I leveled a mage with him, so he always had water. He drank more then me, so make sure you pack plenty of water or have a mage friend ;D

Sorry but this is like the worst balance spec i have seen in a long time. It is pretty bad both in PvE as well in PvP. For PvE (especially leveling) you would like to have Dreamstate AND/or Intensity as it reduces downtimes dramatically. Both are also must-haves in raiding. Furthermore you don't have Nature's reach. Well...... ok...... Balance isn't a RANGED spec, right? No balance of power (essential in PvE) but Improved Nature's Grasp and Eclipse which both are absolutely not needed during leveling. The first one is good for PvP but then the rest of the spec is not PvP oriented at all. Eclipse seems not worth any points right now neither in PvE nor in PvP.

Sorry if this may sound a bit rude, but this spec is really far away from being even a bit useful.

For leveling i would go with something like http://www.mmo-champion.com/talent/?...35213035011051

It would be nice to have three more points for ooc and Master shapeshifter but they are hard to take away from other talents. If you have no big manaproblems you could the points from Intensity into it or just take some points out of talents like Balance of Power (again depending on your equip and how often you have resists or "misses" as they will be declared in wotlk), earth and power as most enemies will die rather quick during leveling or owlkin frenzy as you already have a good pushback resist with wrath due to clestial Focus.

    Thanks for all your responses

As I look though a lot of the specs you listed, I got a good idea how moonkins should be specced.

Tried to make my own, anyone have some creative comments on:

    Re: Moonkin leveling talents

Sorry my friend you fail again. Either go for a pure PvP specc for leveling if you plan on hiting northrend straight away and you must be able to survive/kill enemies doing same quest as you or go for a pure Grind specc/leveling specc.

If you go for PvP specc I would suggest going:
    http://www.mmo-champion.com/talent/?...35213005311001
of course with some minor tweaks like dropping wrath of cenarious and go for improved regrowth. There are some other minor tweaks ou can do aswell like improve moonkin with both talents availible.

Or for a good Grind/level specc I would suggest
    http://www.mmo-champion.com/talent/?...35213005311001
Your spell rotation will still be:
Open with 2 starfires and burn down with wrath. Typhoon and Force of Nature are for those OH SHIT! moments. With this specc you should try to stack +spirit and int gear to minimize downtime since your innervate must surely will restore 100% of your mana aswell as having a really nice passive regen.

Atm with my raidspecc I can go 3 innervates of hiting one mob at a time before going oom and drinking. Don't know if this is good or bad tho but I reccon It's quite good.

I once drank a lava lamp.... It wasn't lava

This is a good specc, master shapeshift is pretty iseless for moonkin, 4% spelldamage adds up little much...and IMO Eclipse is pretty useless too, 1 took 2/2 in gale winds since we will be able to AoE pretty good now

Experienced moonkin who doesn't take iFF and BoP ? Also, MS isn't 4% more spell damage, it's a simple 4% total damage increase. It's quite worthy of attention, even if it might be hard to spare the points for it.
As a starting end-game spec, i'd probably look at something like this : http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=0xzrdicsVdIV0RtZf0fub
with high uncertainties regarding the points for Dreamstate, FoN, Gale Winds, Typhoon, Starfall and Eclipse depending on how this all ends up in terms of mana regeneration and raid usability.

Who is really going to mix their spell rotation with wrath then starfire when starfire is already better?

P.S. still debating 1 point in force of nature or gettin OOC since it works for casts now, OOC isp prolly better.

Current testing shows that at the moment, SF is completely useless bith in terms of dps and in terms of dpm (using some downranking). CoE affecting Nature, mana on crit, GCD reduction on crit and the new spell damage range/costs make SF useless even for proccing Eclipse.
I do hope this is going to change, but don't hold to dearly to yesterday's truths.

As a druid who leveled 60-70 as moonkin, I will tell you that Force of Nature was a godsend as far as minimizing downtime. Treants every few minutes helped a ton by picking up the slack on a mob while I took a break from chaincasting. You regen a good bit of mana and maintain your pace. Alternate it with Innervate and you don't really have to drink all that often.

As far as nature's grasp, I would either get 1/1 NG and 1-2/5 ImpNG, OR 3/3 control of nature (which is probably the better investment because it affects cyclone, too). Even with the 70% pushback resist on wrath, you're going to do the most damage (and take the least) if your targets are rooted away from you.

Another essential talent, imo, for moonkin leveling (I think some people are getting into a more raiding/boss PVE/endgame discussion here) is brambles. +75% damage on roots is killer, especially since you'll be rooting your targets a lot. A whole lot. Insect swarm, roots, and moonfire (on this token, get imp Moonfire too) is going to be your killer DoT combo. I just realized also that in WotLK it's gonna boost treant damage by 15%, which makes this killer talent godly

I can't manipulate the javascript in mmo-champ atm, but as far as builds go, I might get Treants on moonkin side, dreamstate, and then also grab intensity on resto side. You can fill in points up through the rest of balance as you level, but with dreamstate and intensity, your regen will be killer.

If I were to leave out some of the less imperative talents, they would be Improved FF (I've never actually specced for this, I think it's more of a moonkin raiding talent), Balance of Power (resists while you're grinding aren't going to slow you down or run you out of mana or get you killed (unless you were really counting on that cyclone :-X)). I wouldn't get nature's reach (or at least I'd fill in those points later) because you're gonna be either attacking a rooted target, or spamming wrath at melee range 90% of the time anyway. I would sacrifice Lunar Guidance for points in Moonglow because it's better for efficiency. The spelldamage bonus is nice, but maybe something to consider for a max level build.

    Re: Moonkin leveling talents

I didn't look at all the builds in this thread, but all the ones I looked at were builds at 80, which isn't a leveling situation.

    At 70, I like http://www.mmo-champion.com/talent/?...35211035011201

Good mana efficiency, and a strong build for tough fights. I did not take Control of Nature. By the time I'm in enough trouble that I need anti-pushback for Cyclone, Owlkin Frenzy should have already kicked in.

You might not need all the points in Dreamstate, and I could see moving a point from Brambles to IMkF. I don't see E&M or Eclipse as useful for solo grinding. Eclipse is weak because targets aren't tanked. E&M is weak because most individual targets don't live long enough for it to matter.

To the poster who said don't take Nature's Reach. NR makes it much easier to control multi-mob pulls (SF target 1, MF-Root-IS target 2, kill target 1, ...). Another choice is to root a caster at max range, then move out of his range while you kill melee.
