    Alchemy worth keeping?

i am an alchemist with my ret paladin, but from what i've been hearing alchemy seems to be getting nerfed again, so i was wondering; should i just drop alchemy and pick up something else or is alchemy still usefull?
    Yeah, its a Hemmy.

As a Ret Pally.. "meh". Personally I wouldn't use it.

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

im in the same boat as the OP here kinda ... my druid will be balance in the xpac, and i have no idea what alch/herb is going to do for him at all ... if it means i can chug another mana pot before i get potion sickness then it might be worth keeping, but i just have no idea what "bonuses" an alchemist gets.

that aside im also pot specced which with the potion sickness thing will absolutely gimp that profession in terms of making a bit of cash to cover repair bills ... cant see myself selling as many pots anymore

btw i was thinking if i did change it would be wholesale to something like leatherworking/enchanting for all the extra spell power i can get via bracers and rings.

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

You get arena potions, crazy alchemist potion and extra duration/effect buff from elixir/flask and the trinkets

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

so in terms of raiding i am probably better to change profs for my balance druid?

    im not one for arenas

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

No. You get nice trinket and you get a 50% effect from your elixir and 100% duration. So instead to get 125 SP from flask, you get 187 and the flask last 4 hours instead of 2

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

Alchemy is still worth keeping, as elixir or transmute spec. What will be the value of pot spec in wotlk ?

  9. #9

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

you'll get 25% more effect form elixirs and 50% more from flasks. Both with double duration. Thats about pretty the same amount like iE a leatherworker gets with its bracers enchants.

But indeed, potionsickness is a big nerf for healers using the alchemist stone (which is really overpowered atm. Know so much healers, who respecct alchemy only for that trinket)

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

Pot specc will mostly refers to the denisty of herbs required to brew.
As Potion cunsume will rapidly go down through potionsickness, it will only be worth to be pot specc if the regents are rare and expensive.
When manapots will scale at the same price ratio, there really won't be any reason for pot specc .. expect for your are extemly gold starved and have some other Elixir alchis in your guilde or something

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

"Mixology is a new passive bonus gained by alchemists learned from a profession trainer at skill level 50. It increases the stat bonus of elixirs by 25% and the duration by 100% (elixirs last 2 hours). It increases the stat bonus of flasks by 50% and the duration by 100% (flasks last for 4 hours). It has no effect on potions. "

    Yeah, totally worthless.

Does anyone know if health, mana and any new haste/destruction style potion materials in WotLK will be almost as rare as flask materials? or almost as common as they currently are?

No Potion specilisation alchemist wont be the same as right now. Because people wont be using as many potions in combat as they are right now. Potion specialisation = extra mana/health potions. now = 5+ per fight, wotlk = 1 per fight.
So unless rareity/power of mana/health etc potions is being massively increased for the 1 use per fight potion specilisation will be worthless.

I would love information on current potions specilisation potions worth in wotlk beta please.

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

For what i read, potion sickness is not a 100% proc. So you may be able to use more than 1 potion per fight.

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

Honestly I think the alchemist stone buff is worth keeping. The Alchemist tree as a Balance druid extra mana from the possible one, and only mana pot you use is a huge advantage. As far as keeping Pot spec well look at it like this, mana and health pot sales will be larger in the first part of the majority of raiders hitting level 80. I say this because yes only one pot per combat, but wiping 20-30-80 times on a boss, at say 60-50-30% means raiders learning content will need mana pots for most of those wipes. Just my thoughts on that. Look at it like this though if it isn't working out 50 gold changes it, and you don't waste 50 gold speculating right now by changing your Alchemy spec.

If you need a Manapotion within the first 30%-50% of the bossfight, you won't get your mana managed to the end anyway. Also, with the new mana reggen changes, you should only go oom on very long bosses and fights so you won't need to use mana potions in most situations.
One single Potion can not make up against 3-5 potions in an bossfight on live atm. with 40% more effect or not. Manapots will lose much of there current importance, as well the Alchemy Stone.

It will always be a money maker. And gold can unlock a lot of the things u might want/need faster than the actual potion/flask u make. In terms of these bonuses for gathering and crafting profs, it should be a bonus u like and not a technique ull need for ur style of play. So i say stick with it, bank mad cash, and dance on the AH with a fully chanted Purple Tuxedo

    Re: Alchemy worth keeping?

A lot of thinking that people have about alchemy seems to be quite selfish. What about all the flasks and elixirs that you will make to help your guild with progression? What about all the heroics you will do as you gather gear for 10- and 25-man raiding, where pots and elixirs make the difference to how you perform?

Alchemy is a great profession and what you get out of it can benefit everyone, in both PvE and PvP. My rogue does alchemy. I don't care that my stone gives me 40% more from a potion (the AP on it is nice enough as it is); what I do care about it being able to make elixirs and flasks at will, that will benefit all of my toons and those around me.

It is a useful profession. Doesn't dropping a maxed profession for something else seem a bit wasteful?

Not if your guild already have a official alchemist. Alchemy is the profession that alway been on the edge to be a "alt-only" profession. If it doesnt give you any real benefit beside potions you make, why have it?
