Advertising - Reporting bad ads

Ok, after reading the error I have a better understanding and some positive steps in reproducing the problem.

The error actually appears to be coming from the G4 media player for "The MMO Report". I consistently get the error when loading the home page when the player is present, but not when loading an individual page post w/o the player. The player can time out from their media server and it looks like it can leave a tracking script pending. Not sure what could be done about that though. I can send along the error if you have contact w/ the folks at G4. Maybe they can at least change it to fail more gracefully.

That being said, there are still a few ads as well that cause issue. If I notice any ones in particular I'll snag the URL and send it along

I'd very much like it if you would take a look at the new Rift ads.

I think they are WAY over the top, they slow down scrolling for a lot of people, they mess up the color scheme AND layout of the frontpage, and this is a WoW website... You shouldn't advertise WoW's biggest competitor.

I actually made a pretty good post about this earlier, but that thread was locked, and as if that wasn't enough, my post in it was deleted, even though there was nothing offensive or anything even remotely like that in there.
That means I can only assume that my post was deleted because I was actually bringing up valid reasons to remove the ad, and you guys simply don't want to do it because it earns you too much money.

I agree it's over the top, that's why I just downloaded AdBlocker for FireFox and it's doing it's job ;-).

I browse with Opera, which has a built-in function to block adds of your choosing, but if I block this add, there's just a black background instead, and it's almost just as bad for my eyes :/

Besides, I don't even want to block ads on this site. I don't actually mind the regular ads at all. I know this is how the website keeps running, because we sure aren't paying for it.
I can totally take the regular ads. This is just over the top.

Also, they're in French for me. I'm not French, and I don't speak it. I'm a Flemish speaking Belgian.

I'll be sending an email in just a second either way likely, but the ad I got was originally an uninitiated audio ad (for Cascade) and then it keeps switching (without me refreshing the page or anything, all I did was pause the next auto-play video ad) to various new ads (usually with autoplay audio/autoplay video with audio)

Does it matter what's actually showing when I collect the info? Aka should I referesh or wait around until I get the Cascade ad again, or will any of the bad ones in the same little flash box work?


Edit: Sigh, now it's changed to a static ad. Makes it hard to report them when they change without me doing anything!

The ads were:
-Cascade (auto-play video/audio)
-Schmoo (sp?) together we make media (auto-play video likely with audio)
-Another laundry ad (laundry torture) (auto-play video/audio)
-Lysol (auto-play video/audio)

Hmm, I might just do it next time but it had already cycled through several ads and was back to a static one on (seemingly) a different ad network. I wouldn't want to report that.

The Busch Gardens ad autoplays audio, and there's NO WAY to turn off the sound. I'm not sure how else to indicate what specific ad, but this is the link it took me to when I clicked on it.

Played sound automatically with absolutely no way to stop or mute it. Cycled through multiple ads, first one was for bing, second for febreeze.

I love getting ads on the page for reporting bad ads... i HATE ads that do audio that don't at least give me an option to mute....

apparently it's some flash that runs to the right of the featured videos. Been getting TONS more lately, like every page i go to. VERY annoying

flash player settings usually say game.playpickle.com or game.mytopfreegames.com. Not sure how to give you anymore info from Chrome.

I posted in the discussion on a different thread but thought I would repost here.

I often browse with multiple tabs and leave pages open to return to later. Given the nature of my work a website that plays audio adds is unacceptable and for that reason alone this site is not on my exceptions list. All the other gaming community sites I visit are exceptions (i.e. I want their adds to support them) but none of them allow audio adds, especially not adds with annoying smileys and buzzing flies.

Please make a post on the front page when you have managed to filter out these and I am sure you will enjoy a jump in advertising views (and therefore clicks), but until then I will enjoy the margin-free, fast loading and above all SILENT viewing experience addblock allows me.

We're trying to get rid of whatever's causing the audio ads.. reported them several weeks ago, and sent another mail about it this weekend. Our ads people are trying to track down the source so we can get them removed.
