Thread: Repec to Boom

    Repec to Boom

OK I have always played a feral druid. Now that my main (Mage) is pretty much geared, I wanted to pick up my 70 druid again. Our guild has a ton of Cats, but no raiding Boomkin. So I thought it sounds fun to try a boomkin, but I have zero Boomkin gear. Any sites or help on how to switch from Zero to make it a leveling viable toon? I want to level Boomkin so I can hit the ground running when I am 80.

^ that thread looks like it could be useful for leveling, I've been balance since pre-bc so didn't bother using any websites for leveling info when WOTLK came out. If you have any spare lvl 70 heroic badges just buy some badge gear, and supplement it with crafted/AH gear but i wouldn't bother spending too much until you hit 80 as it won't take too long to level even in terrible gear.

Once you hit 80 refer to the links in my sig.

    Re: Repec to Boom

Just buy whatever spellpower gear you can as a start (cloth or leather won't matter too much) - the quest gear in Northrend is pretty good at giving a decent amount of caster leather, so you shouldn't be sitting around in the purchased gear for very long.

Here is a pretty basic boomkin levelling spec: http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?drui...h=220100070401

It has all the mana regen talents (which you'll probably need given your gear will be poor), and it has all the basic damage talents you'll need.

    Re: Repec to Boom

OK so I dinged 71 and pieced together some gear (still need a new idol and trinket) and read EJ. This is what I came up with this morning. Other Moonkins pls take a peek and see if I am on the right path

For those that tell me L2P, that is why I am posting. I was always Feral Cat, and never raided with this toon. My main was a Loc in TBC and my main is now a Mage. This was my first toon I rolled, so I got him to 70 to tank TBC instances when friends needed a tank for their leveling toons

Also any hints on where to get an appropriate Idol and Trinket?

Your gear looks decent enough for level 71. You shouldn't have any trouble levelling as boomkin.

Nobody has said as such and neither should they - this is exactly the point of forums like this.

Unfortunately there are no Moonkin idols from quests in Northrend - only two feral ones :/ You can however purchase http://www.wowhead.com/?item=38360 with tokens from Grizzly Dailies, and that's decent enough. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33510 is a bit better from pure DPS perspective, but it requires level 70 badges, so I'm not sure if you've got any left from when you played this char. Worth it if you do though (costs 20 badges).

As for a trinket, here are a few decent ones from various quests:

Thanks! I never ran heroics or raids on this toon, so no level 70 badges. That trinket list is great, some I already missed, but some I still have to do. I did a level yesterday and was amazed that I did a level and almost never got touched by a mob.

For a leveling single mob rotation I am rooting them, IFF, IS, MF, Wx2 then SF. Does that sound about right?

Sounds like waaaay too much effort to me.

For starters, IFF is pretty pointless for levelling as you should either already be at hit cap or pretty close to it, and even if you do miss the number of times it'll happen is FAR less than the total number of GCDs spent casting it (same with the increased crit chance).

Next, IS & MF are also pretty pointless as the mob should die a lot quicker than the duration of the DoTs, so they're mostly wasted.

Next, You should open with your harder hitting spells first (starfire), not as the very last cast My general rotation for levelling boomkin 70-80 was:

SF, SF, Wrath spam. IF either of the first starfire's crit, then usually it'd only be 1 or 2 wraths before they died. If both SFs crit, then typically that'd just 2 shot the mob.

I don't know who told you that blizz was pretty good about dropping caster leather during questing, but they must have been in different zones than i. The caster leather from quests is few and far between, honestly your probably better off level as feral and just grabbing whatever leather caster gear you can from quests and instances, plus you're more likely to get into those as you can tank them yourself.
Boomkin is great for raiding, but level feral

I found plenty enough caster leather gear when levelling 70-80. Sure I had one or two cloth pieces along the way, but it hardly mattered - I rarely healed and even when I did I still didn't have any downtime.
