Dragonsteel Faceplate vs. Spiked Titansteel

So which one is better? (yes get your laffs out, my fellow plate dpsers have always outbid me on the Obsidian Greathelm). i heard that ArP isn't that great for ret pallies, but yeah, I'm getting sick of my titansteel which I've been using for like what, half a year now? What's your guyses opinion?

from what my ret pally friend has told me, arm pen isn't great for ret pallies because, like divine storm, your judgements, and what not, aren't physical damage and has no effect on them, i think the only thing that benefits from armor pen for you is your auto attacks, and maybe crusader strike

I cant remember which helm is like the only upgrade minus ulduar items for ret pally helms but yeah that spiked titansteel helm is like BiS except for something from some hard mode (I cant remember cause I just recently stopped raiding and moved on to alts and other games for a while)

There is a BoE epic that drops on XT002 Heroic, has similar stats to the Titansteel so you won't loose HIT or anything. Then again I just ditched that for T8 (go 4/5 yey !) cauz I had way too much HIT on my gear (332 or something stupid, now I'm back down to 8.05% )

imo dont waste too much dkp on dragonsteel faceplate if you can get obsidian greathelm.

Any item is better if it's what is keeping you hit capped.

It doesn't make dragonsteel faceplate "good"

The helmet is much better for the other plate wearers.

2nd best in slot for some DK specs.

I got my Dragonsteel Faceplate last night on my DK. Very Nice upgrade from the Titansteel for a DK and it looks pretty damn sweet.

I don't like this statement because you're never really in "need" of anything unless under the hit/expertise cap.

It's not like there's a degree to which haste or crit scales really well. They're all mediocre stats compared to strength and expertise (if under cap)

Hit cap should be priority, and that's the only reason iron riveted war helm and dragonsteel faceplate can play ball with a decent helmet lineup.

After equiping WorldCarver, i dropped to 28% Crit. So i could say i'm in "need" of Crit.
Now, if i would loot a Rune Edge, i would be in "need" of more Attack Power and/or Expertise.
Of course, there isn't a "degree to which haste or crit scales really well", but there is a degree where it sucks balls.

I think (by judging from the other post above yours here) is that he's saying that you could favor one stat more than another based on gear setup. The example he gives (of being under 30% crit) is a good one, because under 30%, usually between 20 and 25%, is where you tend to have a hard(er) time keeping Veng stacks up and what not.

Also I would hope that you have decent AP anyhow with the better gear :P
