Thread: Hodir and dps

    Hodir and dps

I play Desto lock for PvE and I have saw some other classes getting 10k+ dps on hodir. How the hell do you maintain the high damage?
I have crit him for 45k ect and others in my guild get 50k ect but how do you maintain it.
I end up with about 6k dps after he dies, Any tips on how too improve this. Also the tanks can keep aggro with the high crits even after I use Soul shatter

its all luck (depending on how many storms you get), unless your guild is working on hard mode and stacking the buffs properly to max out raid wide damage.

    Re: Hodir and dps

as an ele sham that can hold at 12k dps and has gone as high as 18k all u need to do is stand in the fires>beams>cloud fire first so u dont need to stop casting thats why they are best the more buffs u can stack the better ending in over all better damage
shamans suck soo much, but we are the best class in the game.

You need to have melee running storm power to you and 3 of your friends (Mages and Destro Locks).

    Stormcloud!!!

its all about how often you get the storm buff - i as a mage always blink to the buff right after it spawns - the highest dps i could pull of with that was over 13k (i had the crit buff like 80% and haste buff like 70% of the time), another mage in my guild hit 15k with that but with luck theres a lot more - i dont know about locks and how well they profit from both buffs haste and crit - but in our guild the locks usually stand beside the fire all the time to keep the debuff up

    Re: Hodir and dps

i play a mage - its all about having all your ranged stand togehter and get the debuff - we dont have our mele run to the ranged, but usually its about 1/2 and 1/2 in ranged - if you stand in the light wells and have the cloud then you start raping shit - i have pulled 18k on kill attempts and as high as 23k on attempts that were off some - all hard mode

We always have the ranged together stacking on the fires.

    Re: Hodir and dps

Well as you know there are 3 buffs -

    Fire- Increases spell damage
Light Beam - Increases cast speed
    Cloud - Increases Crit damage

Basically what i personally think the best way to get high dps is make sure he ALWAYS has the fire debuff on him, the thing many people dont realise is that anyone near a fire refreshes the debuff so you personally dont need to stand near it, but it helps due to not having to move. Always go for the lightning, if someone is using DBM it should put a skull and x on the peoples heads, i recommend you run to the person and run with them untill you get it. Something else i do is since the debuff lasts like 30secs and its actualy put onto new people each 20-25secs i remove it myself so that i can run and get the whole buff rather than keep the old buff and have to wait a while for the new one - basically max uptime on the cloud. As for the beams i personally dont use them much as when a beam spawns most people jump into it meaning by the time you actualy get benifit the snow that falls from the roof more often than not targets that spot and you have to move. Also if the beam isnt near a fire you will have to move/jump to remove debuffs meaning dps loss again. So in short, make sure fire debuff is up, make sure max uptime of cloud and use beam only if its near a fire and there arnt many people near it.

    Re: Hodir and dps

afaik the fire only makes sure you dont get the ice debuff when standing still.

light beam gives haste to melee and casters

the stormcloud increases your dmg by XX%(dont know how much)

so, you as destro lock should stand close to the fire, in a lightbeam with stormcloud buff to maintain 10k dps or more. ive seen up to 17k dps of casters @ hodir.

    Re: Hodir and dps

The main thing is to keep up the Singed debuff on the boss, and make sure you get the Stormcloud. The Moonlight is nice, but it usually requires you to move around too much to get to it. In the end you're better off staying near a fire so you can keep casting.

On my guild's hardmode kill this week I ended up at 9.6k dps (Destruction Warlock) and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the max I could reach. I did not stand in the Moonlight at any point during the fight.

Its not luck, as range its easy mode make sure your always standing in a boomchicken beam and get the storms as much as possable which should be 90% of the time. If anyone is doing less than 7 or 8k dps ur raid needs some new dps inless your tank doesnt like giving melee the beams.

The fire gives you a chance to deal 3000 extra damage with spells, and every time you do so you stack a debuff on Hodir increasing his magical damage taken by 2% for each stack, up to a max of 25 stakcs I belive. So the fire is very important, but only for casters. Preferably you want all the buffs, as you mentioned. The storm cloud only increases you crit damage though.

so i checked it to be 100% this time.

Storm Power gives 135% crit damage bonus

Toasty Fire - which prevents the effects of Biting Cold, Flash Freeze and Freeze, and Melt Ice, which attempts to free a target encased in a frost tomb over 10 seconds. Players standing near a Toasty Fire have a chance to apply Singed when hitting with spells.

Starlight - increases attack and casting speed of the affected targets by 100% for 1 minute.

    total story is here

    edit:
    forgot to add Singed

as caster, best option is to stand near a fire so you can stand still the whole time. not moving makes a big difference. the Starlight is at random places, you have to be lucky to get these. Storm cloud should be given by melee to ranged whenever they can. -> person with the buff should run towards casters. on heroic its been given to 6 players. on normal mode, 4 players.

    Re: Hodir and dps

10k+ isn't hard to reach, i'm able to reach that as a survival hunter on hard mode 25 man.

You need to maximize the amount of buffs you get and how to stack them is very important. It's good to have survival hunters near the fires to stack the debuff quick, this way the casters don't necesarily need to be in the fire but it definitely helps because they don't have to jump. Also, stacking the storm buff and the moonlight is a huge dps jump.

Thanks for the info guys, I think the problem I had was that my RL's always told casters too stay near the Fires at all times so I never got the storm close untill it came too our "group".

You have all been a great help.
