Well, ToC 25 / 10 man non-heroic version is SOOOOOOOOOOO hard that we totally need to be balanced around it, same like Patchwerk because those are such complex and incredible encounters, but Mimiron / Yogg + 0, Freya + 3 is piece of cake and we should neglect that and focus straightforward to being able to unload damage to a single target within 1 minute and that's what defines a good dps and good player, when you own Recount completely on "I am standing still and pushin' mai buttonz m8 i tolly rock y00 kno?" type of encounter.
By the way, they're changing Arcane mage mechanics and giving them more damage at cost of mana so they need to watch it and choose when to burst.
I'll use another example - Arcane mage is awesome source of burst. We had arcane mage at Iron Council hard mode who literally annihilated the last guy.
But what happened - when we nuked the 1st guy, he was oom at 2nd guy (small one). He just regened and didn't dps (because that's not a crucial phase).
When we went against last guy, when heroism was up and when he had all his cooldowns up - he blew the guy up and that's one thing people don't understand - it's NOT important to be on top all the time. It doesn't matter that warlock ABC ended up #1 as dpser.
Encounters aren't like Brutallus or M'Uru anymore. You don't have to have close to theoretical dps and perfect raid setup. You need good players.
Shadow priest does a lot of nice things - we got hymn of hope, extremely useful for healers. We got dispersion (soaking up big bangs from algalon for example, awesome ability). We got 15% damage reduction by default and self-heal. We live long, we can multidot, we can aoe.
I know majority will ignore what I wrote but the qq about locks being up there and we aren't is pretty boring. If you're not satisfied, you can ALWAYS reroll and play that 3 button spec and wank at being #1 at recount if that's what you play for.
There are still fights were DPS matters:
-Freya +3
-Yogg +0
-Iron council hm
-Algalon
-Vezax
Luckily we do well there except Algalon....
And algalon is the only encounter where your Raidleader might switch the second shadow priest for a pure +2k DPS class:>

But it's also the only encounter I really care for, these days. That's why it's so annoying.
Now now! Don't be mean.Well, ToC 25 / 10 man non-heroic version is SOOOOOOOOOOO hard that we totally need to be balanced around it, same like Patchwerk because those are such complex and incredible encounters
Patchwerk is MUCH HARDER than ToC, even if you had to fight all 3 encounters, with all mini-bosses in it, at the same time.
Shadow single target dps has never been good. It was low even in Naxx but all that mind sear spamming on thrash covered it up. By the time we got to Ulduar every spriest was effectively "haste capped" and scaling became the TBC nightmare all over again. No dps spec can afford to scale badly with one of the primary dps stats (sp,crit, haste) and yet we do. The single target dps will keep on dropping in comparison with everyone else as they can use every stat, while we have to avoid even our own set pieces stacked with haste.
I'd really like to see the PTR patchwerk dps tests that blizzard used to decide that spriest single target dps and scaling for 3.2 was fine.
Single target dps was actually decent in Naxx. I used to be amongst the top 3 on Patchwerk (doesn't say much but still) and even topped the meter once. So for the records it stood it's own against the other classes.Originally Posted by Berner

My main is a spriest and I raid with him and feel like even with working as hard as i can to pump out the DPS and being well geared that I am good step behind people on DPS charts. I do feels my raid spot at this time is safe because for my class i do great DPS and i am the only one. However i do feel like i am a token class/spec. the well because we need one I am there. If i was any other class in the raid doing this level of DPS i would expect to be sitting often.
You can't use data from wowmetersonline as definitive proof about any dps discussion. Firstly the sample size of the data is incredibly small and subject to corruption. Secondly the context of the data is unknown, what buffs did the sample cover? What was the raid makeup? What was the lag of the attempts? What strategy did the attempts utilise? There are so many variables, all of which are not recorded.Originally Posted by richay
I could write an essay on why the data is corrupt and untrustworthy. In any case, no one is trying to argue spriest dps is one of the highest but it certainly can compete within what I believe to be a reasonable range from pure dps classes. The data highlight above completely distorts the true underlying figures for the reasons I listed above.
Yep i recon all priests are totally honest and every other class is corrupt log faking bastards.
These are exactly the sort of numbers i and many other people see in raids day in day out.
Shadow Priest DPS is really not that bad. On a XT hard mode kill I have gotten 6.2k DPS.Originally Posted by alaw
