    Time and skill needed for awesome gear

    A large poll was made to figure out what amount of skill and afford of time should be needed to get awesome gear.
    The results were quite different in the particular values, but for a strange reason, they always looked like these:

    I don't afford much time so I guess awesome gear shouldn't be needed.

    Particular values modified by "strange reason" = Fail post and ugly graph

    Time to step up your skills and Gquit and find a guild that won't hold you back.

    Well the thing is, I belive most hardcore don't mind casuals getting the same gear, eventually. It's only that now they can get equal gear with less time spent.
    You want to be awarded for the time spent, more time spent should equal better gear and more progress. Because, as we all know, whilst it's still just a game, the time spent isn't virtual.
    If I was a Blizz server technician, I'd hijack a server and use it to download porn 24/7. Guess why the instance servers always are full B]

    This topic is a lie, neither skill or time is needed to get great gear.

    Take the world top guilds;

    They raid 7 days a week on new content, clear it, and from few weeks later they raid 1/2/3 raids a week just to clear normal content.

    PTR time helps too... If you consider the time spent learning fights on the PTR even though chances are they have more naturally skilled players than most guilds they're still putting in alot of time. There could also be debate over how time is spent. I mean you could consider the multiple hours of downtime (for whatever reason) spent, while more organized/prepared raid groups will clear more content in less time by maximizing the time spent in that instance.

    yes because getting the best gear as fast as possible with people that piss you off is more important than having fun playing a game with people you like.

    case in point the week ulduar was released three of my former guild's "best" players thought they were being held back by our guild because we weren't getting server firsts. so they transfered to a different server to app for a north american top 50 guild, and they got their instant gratification. now they don't play anymore because they got burnt out/pissed off from being treated as nothing more than slaves.

    I think it would be more appropriate for the graph to resemble a hyperbola.
    Think y=1/x
    y = skill
    x = playtime

    Basically, no matter how much time you have, you'll still need some skill to get the good items.
    And, no matter how much skill you might have, you'll still need some playtime to get the good items.

    Seems wrong, as you only need like 15 minutes to get boosted through a heroic 25 man and get fully kitted in no time.

    good suggestion
    But I rather go with f(x)=1/1-x (or something), since moderate amounts of 'skill' AND 'time' don't seem to work: skill all the way, or crap loads of time!!!
