How will blizzard end Wow?

This is the first MMO i have ever played and how do they end? Will they just come to a point where they decided to close down the servers? Also do you think that the lore will come to an end with peace on Azeroth? ;D

I just want to see what other people think will happen. I would love to see the problems solved, i hate cliffhangers.

When people stop playing.. and I mean really stop playing (not the qq game to easy im quitting crap that goes on every day), then they will begin to merge servers and eventually announce that they are discontinuing support for the game. I figures 3-4 years still.

Whatever happens, WoW is not going to end Warcraft lore. They'll visit a lot of lore, but there's always something that they can build new lore upon.

Anyhow, I'll share with you an idea a friend of mine had when we were talking about the same thing.

Some random tech guy will press a big shiny red button before he goes home for the night, servers gone and we're done.

They never "officially" end games, like...BANG, BOOM, BAM, all of your chars died in a horrible fire that wiped out the whole of the world...all your chars where burnt to death..even the ones you weren't logged onto...the end.

It's more like...final expansion comes out...people slowly quit....the server sizes drop...blizzard offers free realm changed to specific servers..trys to keep the pops up on those servers...blizz discountinues most of its moderation and management, thus there will be limited moderation, most likely no additional content patches etc...The servers basically stay the same until people eventually get bord...then probs one day profit for running wow servers will not be enough to break even or..you know...fill thier pockets as much anymore..and they'll shut it all down.

^ The end of wow...although, im all up for some massive WoW ending...altho..thats assuming im nt still addicted...but thing...imagine how many people would crack the shits if blizz just "ended" wow...lol...would be humourous.

They will probably just stop making content at the end of one expansion and when the player base dies out and/or moves to another game, they will shut the servers down.

Most MMORPG's dont end. Sooner or later, WoW will sadly become old news, but WoW will still be there. Maybe a few content packages for those who still play, not as richly produced as it is right now, but that's how most MMO's go, they dont end.

Minus a few crappy MMO's like the Matrix Online that shut down. Question: if a MMORPG is shut down, and no one played it in the first place, does it make a sound?

First thought, EQ is still on, didn't they release an expansion about 6 months ago. It's been going for around 10 years at this point. Granted it's a shadow of what it once was, and no where near where Blizz is.

But that said, WoW could last for a very very long time if Blizzard wants it too and probably still make money.

However, I do think it would be cool if as the game dies, Blizzard would pull the plug.

I'd also imagine as this starts to happen, at some point, Blizzard will make some progression servers like EQ did, it brought a lot of nostalgia back into the game. Meaning, you start as vanilla, and as soon as someone clears Naxx on 40 man, then BC opens. Raid instances open as other final bosses are downed. Sunwell won't open until Archimonde and Illidan are down, etc... and so on.

Makes for a fun server and amazing guild competitions are fierce for server firsts, at least it was on EQ.

Im not actually interrested in the actuall game nowadays. I just want to know the full story!

Honestly, I have a hard time seeing WoW die any time soon. EverQuest is 11 years old this year and still has a fair number of servers, and that game at its peak had only a small portion of WoW's current subscriber total. I think it will be a long time until WoW dies.
