I mean ye I understand, that listening to metal makes you "cool", so there are lot's of 16y old fags listening to shit, especially on MMO forums, but not long ago there was at least two or three members, who wrote METAL bands. But all I see here is pussy melodic metal n shitcore. Bleh.

Atleast someone linked Edge of Sanity, that's pretty decent...Yes, it's trash and other is "death metal".
Another poster up on his High Horse. I'd really like to hear your definition of the word Metal before you spew anymore written garbage in this thread.

and tbh, who the fuck listens to anything to be "cool"? i listen to music because i like it, i doubt anyone who truly loves metal feels much differently.

    Re: Metal

Killswitch Engage - because I love the sound of growling and then pure singing, plus the lyrics are just awesome.

All That Remains - pretty much the same as Killswitch, but more intense.

Eluvietei - I love folk metal, and these guys are amazing. The gaelic lyrics and themes are just soothing to listen to.

Finntroll - Amazing folk metal that is good to jig to.

Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer - Originators of Thrash!

Iron Maiden - Gods of metal!!

    Anywho, some of my favorites.

    Agalloch- soooo atmospheric
Ahab- "Funeral Doom" and all of their songs are about Moby Dick
Alcest- French atmospheric metal band. It's really laid back and beautiful
Animals as Leaders- Same sound as Periphery, some of the music is wrote by Periphery's main guitarist, but no lyrics
Baroness- stoner metal, in way shape or form do i get high, but they write great music
Between the Buried and Me- their first two albums, amazing, but now they are turning into a modern Dream Theater
The Binary Code- band from NJ, just starting out. Very technical yet melodic stuff here
Burst- band from Sweden they no longer are together, but they wrote solid stuff
Cloud Kicker- same sound as Periphery again, but wrote by one guy, no lyrics
Converge- not really metal, but holy hell are they aggressive, Jane Doe and Axe to Fall are their greatest albums
    Cryptopsy- mainly their first album
Cult of Luna- sludgy metal, they create worlds in their music
Cynic- if you haven't heard of them, well shame on you
Dillinger Escape Plan- Techy, fast, furious, and out of control live
Gojira- french metal band that is Heavy as fuck
Hjarnidaudi- their album Pain Noise March is incredibly good, and it will put you in a coma, sludgy
Isis- Post-rock metal? I dunno, they are amazing though
Katatonia- always have reminded me of Opeth, but there is something different about them that puts them on another level
Les Discrets- another atmospheric french death metal band
Lykathea Aflame- I am surprised no has said this one yet, if you can't like this shame on you. premier metal in the early 00's
    Mastadong- yup it's Mastadon
Opeth- progressive metal at it's finest, and they make good album after good album
Orgone- best death metal album I have listened to in a looooong time
    Periphery- PERIPHERY!! LOVE THAT SHIT
Pig Destroyer- brutal, that is all I have to say
Shai Hulud- not really metal, more of a progressive hardcore, but the riffage is amazing
Sons of Aurelius- teachy, fast past, but still brutal
    Tyr- metal+vikings=bliss
Ulver- they aren't metal anymore, but the music they make now is thought provoking

    Well there you have it

    TLDR- I like music

I would post more, but it would stop being about the metal and more indie stuff

    Re: Metal

Cambridge, you might like The Morningside. Russian dark metal band that sounds rather similar in many obvious ways to Brave Murder Day-era Katatonia as well as Agalloch.

Why would you call Les Discrets death metal btw? They aren't even metal. More like shoegazer / dark folk. Fursy never screams or growls.

Yeah don't really know what I was typing there haha.

    Folk/atmospheric/shoegaze sounds stupid though :P

And I will check The Morningside out.

Also... a good black metal band

    Doh.

    Sidenote - Mastodon

    --

That said, Kylesa / Bison BC both should tickle your fancy if you enjoy Baroness/Mastodon.
Try Wolves in the Throne Room and <Code> as well for some nice black metal.

    Re: Metal

if you like alcest, some other shoegaze black metal outfits:

    Heretoir
    Thranenkind
    Soliness
    Dopamine

Also, Neige got his start in the incredible black metal band Peste Noire, so check them out. Just be warned that it's not easy listening.

And Amesoeurs is a great band that has Neige (Alcest), Fursy (Les Discrets), Audrey (Peste Noire)

This awesome thread can't be on the second page.

Here's some more awesome bands I've discovered overtime. Most are Melodic Death Metal, but here and there's a little bit of variation (Like Black or Symphonic). Try these out:

Fallen Joy - Best French band I've ever heared, these guys have potential. Their EP is amazing. I love every song they have so far, incredible stuff. Can't wait for the real studio work.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQG2ezdK6bQ

Welicoruss - Russian Band. Really melodic. These guys get the most out of their instruments. They sing in Russian most, if not, all the times so it's hard to understand. But who cares! The music, that's where it's at!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6T2ghRJrts

Darkness by Oath - Spanish band. I don't like them as much as let's say Fallen Joy but maybe someone else might enjoy it.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir91Xzt3JTA

Obtenebris - Canadian band. I totally love the part at 30 seconds. Those parts blow me away.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzzH3EWqh3k

Lost Dreams - Austrian band. The outro in particulary is incredible.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2irEdUJux08

Climhazzard - Band from the USA.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuZcJ0U5HP8

Their main guitarist even puts their solos on youtube. This guy is incredible talented it's actually sick. Just listen to this:

    Have fun

Been listening to Behemoth lately and they kick major ass.

Inferno is crazy behind his kit.

Cradle of Filth is another favorite of mine.

No such thing as shit metal. There is just so many different types of metal, that obviously not all metal is to your taste. I personally am more fond of thrash metal and pirate metal.

Everybody is different, treat everyones taste in music with respect.

Except for Justin Bieber fans... They deserve no respect
