now the problem is that if every model blizzard have had this many polygons everything would be fucking unplayable due to fpslagg, one of blizzards selling points is that almost any PC can run its games.

But he's not making the model of an ingame character. He is using the orc from the posters and such.

You apparently do not understand the limitations of game design. You are designing for certain systems (PC, PS3, xBox, whatever). Now, these can only process so much. If you create this amazingly detailed model with millions of polygons, then, guess what. Some systems just aren't going ot be able handle. Especially if there are hundreds of these millions of polygon models running around.

There is actually an art to making something look good in a small amount of polygons. Blizzard could make models that look like the ones some of their opening cinematics. But guess what? Most systems aren't going to be able to play the game. They make the conscious decision to use fewer polygons so that more systems can run the game. And with the systems they have to work with. And with the amount of polygons they probably use in their models, they make things look damn good.

You're actually comparing a motionless model with huge amounts of polygons to models in WoW that can actually move without completely bogging down most PCs?
If you want a comparison, compare to the intro movies to the expansion packs (which Xheoul so nicely directed you to).

What he made is just art. It isn't moving, and won't be able to be programmed to move (easily). If Blizz made all the models in the game that quality, it would be even more taxing on the computer than Crysis on its highest settings.

It looks like something from Warcraft 2.
