    tl;dr:

Ubisoft is putting a new DRM scheme on Assassin's Creed 2. all of its up and coming games.
    1) Your saved game is stored on their server.
    2) If you lose connection to their server you are kicked out of your game and return to your last save next time you reconnect.

I am using the results of this pole for an economics project, so tell your friends - I need as many responses as possible

Edit: just expanded the survey to any Ubisoft game in general, so when answering please do not limit yourself to just Assassin's Creed 2.

    Re: Assassin's Creed 2 DRM

I already have, and beat Assassin's Creed 2 on the 360.

But I wasn't aware of the DRM for the PC. Seems like a BIG screw you to people who bought the game but do not have access to the internet.

In my opinion, terrible idea and I hope other company's don't follow this even if it reduces Video Game Piracy.

Now this comic page makes more since.

Also, this quote from the Article was interesting.

But as we saw last week with Microsoft shutting down online features for original Xbox games and EA pulling the plug on some multiplayer sports titles, no server runs forever.
So, in 5-10 years, you wont even be able to play the game? It's like adding a DRM to Super Mario World, it would be unplayable now. I wonder if they thought this through?

    Re: Assassin's Creed 2 DRM

If this goes ahead and spreads accross games on the pc, there will be a huge decline in PC sales and especially gamer pc sales and pc games sales. alot of my friends only play PC games offline. and assassins creed has no need for an internet connection untill they release the mutliplayer side of it. so if they do intend to add this, the first thing you will see is people playing untill they lose an hours work due to a system crash or the server not holding the correct save file at the time, resulting in rage trade ins for the console version.

if they added this to the console versions you would see a massive return in consoles (thats if it was rolled out accross the board) as plenty of people have consoles but no internet connections thus resulting in no saves and returning to the megadrive way of play and if you dont complete it you start again

as with combatting video game piracy, you litteraly can't, same with music and movies,
the rule goes you shutdown one way to copy something and a new technology arrives that does it for the new age. so with regards to assassins creed saves this will most likely turn out to be something like having a ghost server file on your pc and instead of the game going on the net to get a save file it will simply treat this folder as the online server and save files here, basically tricking the game into thinking its getting info from the official server when in reality its all on your pc.

it happened with cd's just before MP3 players like ipods became real popular, they started adding files to cd's that didn't allow you to copy them and thus when your bought your ipod you couldn't copy it over rendering the purchase of the cd completely pointless. then you would have to pay to download it again or stick it to the man by downloading it elsewhere. you will notice that such copy blocks on cd's don't exist anymore.
