Cataclysm Talent Points for Shadow

So I'm sure most of you know by now that we'll be getting more talent points to spend when the expansion hits (10 or 15 points from what Blizzard tells us) but our talent trees will remain unchanged for the most part. We may see some talents removed like improved Shadow Word Pain, etc.


I'm interested in what people's ideas are for your new spec. Personally, I think this will do wonders for Shadow PVP since we'll probably have enough points to reach all of our essential must haves, but also things like Reflective Shield.

Perhaps having a sort of anti-caster spec would be fun as well with talents like Spell Warding + Shadow form.


What are your ideas?

Most trees will drastically change. The base idea and core talents (shadow form) will stay but everything around that could very well completely change.

He meant 10-15 "free" talent points after getting all mandatory core talents (cookie-cutter spec)

But anyway, the idea behind that is that there will be no cookie cutter spec. So asking about one even before we know the talents trees is kind of silly...

Blizzard knows there always will be cutti-cutter specs, they (should) just leave more open room than now. But you're right that is pointless to speculate now...not until we know the trees (at least from beta stage)

They said they wouldn't be changing the trees much, only removing talents that up your damage or healing.

I would expect Darkness, Improved SW:Pain, Shadow Power, Mind Melt and Improved Vampiric Embrace to be replaced with masteries.
That means: more points in shadow taken gives more shadow damage, and more shadow crit damage.

These talents would in place be replaced with something "more fun". Like batswarm form. Or whatever they come up with.

No I think this was a misunderstanding, recent blue post go in the direction of keeping the idea of the tree and core talents that make the tree what it is...but mess around with the rest quite heavily. Not for every tree but for many. So we really don't know how much shadow tree will be affected. Really. Wait for beta talent trees

But, yes, while we gain 5 talent points the tree is not going to look like it does now. Otherwise, um, go go improved shields? Bleh
