    Wow gone choppy

So i logged in tonight and wow started acting weird.
Im getting an averae 50FPS which is normal and about 500ms (normal for me) and its been really really choppy. I dont know wtf is going on and its not unplayable but really really annoying.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Please Mr Moderator do point me where exactly i should look about my wow being choppy, its niether a latency or a fps issue.

    Re: Wow gone choppy

If you are getting normal fps and normal ping, then it might be a hard drive/CPU/RAM issue. Check to make sure that WoW is using the majority of your CPU in task manager displayed on top with WoW open. Check your hard drive activity light and check your RAM usage, see how much you have free.

To you, it might look like useless information. To others, not so much.

Also, make sure you don't have Folding@Home running in the background.

Hope this helps, makes no sense in the slightest me me.
With wow or any other game running my CPU usage is at about 45 - 50%. After further inspection seems my whole PC is running a litle choppy, mostly with games though, barely noticeable with web surfing and watching media.

    Re: Wow gone choppy

Your drivers are a bit out of date. You should probably pick up 197.45 from the nVidia website (released 2 days ago).

If your whole PC is running choppy, then I'd be looking for background processes that shouldn't be running or might be partially hung, which can drain resources.

Got the updated drivers still running choppy, but can you elaborate on partially hung? Im a lil bit retarded with computers most of the time ahha

Check task manager for anything running and consuming CPU (a number higher than "00" in the CPU column). There might be a process that has a problem and is pulling CPU time even though it shouldn't be.

So you have good fps and decent latency but WoW is "choppy"?
Did wow run smooth before, and if so, have you changed anything recently?

sounds weird but yeah more or less. Havent changed anything at all as far as i know. Just started happening halfway between a heroic. and yeah ever since
Never had any issues playing wow on this comp.

HAd a look at it and the only thing that was doing ti was windows media player, which ive got running in the background around the clock. Everyday for upto 20 hours a day depending on if my housemate is awake or not.

Sounds very strange. Try defrag your HDD, probably won't do must but its worth a try.

First thing that springs to mind would be overheating, if you're still watching this thread then you should consider monitoring your temperatures.

    Current Mode: 2048 x 1152 (32 bit) (60Hz)
    <snip>
    Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (59Hz)
It seems like you are running two monitors.

If so, then disabling one while you play will increase performance.

And have you tried the usual stuff? Virus Scan, defrag (I recommend MyDefrag, its free and scored higher than the free windows software and many paid defraggers), malware check? (Spybot Search and Destroy is very good)

Thought about the same things, especially after he said that the computer is running fine after he went to sleep.....

How long did you have that computer running m8? It can get slower if you let it running for a long time.

Anyway... i blame M$ for all your problems.... and mine.... and the hole on the ozone layer.... and cancer.... : ;D

    Re: Wow gone choppy

Suddenly choppy gameplay is 99% caused by either
    a) some kind of background task (virus scan, backup, defrag etc) or
    b) automatic updater (windows, virus scan, java etc)

When your game starts stalling next time, start the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and sort the list of open programs by CPU usage and memory usage. That will usually show you exactly what is the reason for the slowdown.
