What situation could lead them to gain SO much rating from such a lower rating team? I'll try to answer any questions that are asked if anyone can explain the situation.

They were a new team and had an actual rating of like 200.

Their rating seems to be about 1.2k Because the arena time is western, it was about 2AM server, so I doubt they did a lot of games aftermath. We were rated ~1560 at the time, is that enough to cause a 50 rating gain for a win?

    Re: Rating confusion

When i create a new team, its at 0 rating. But my MMR is 2k. So the first many fights i gain 40-50 points , so I can get close to my MMR fast.

    Do you follow?

    Re: Rating confusion

as jackus said allready , lets say you played druid war on a 2.2k rating but youre warrior partner stoped playing and you need to find a new partner , once found you decide to make a new team but it would be kinda harsh if you would need to grind to youre old 2.2k rating again if youre only getting 5-20 points max , so thats why blizz made it so that if you win a game with a low team rating youre team will gain 47 points every win till abaut 1000-1300 rating , after that youl just get normal points and it goes alot slower :P hope you understand my explanation lol

    Re: Rating confusion

Just to explain it a bit more:

The point you gain are determined by a comparison of your TEAMrating vs the enemies MMrating. The points you lose are determined similarly. But the rating displayed at the end of the game is the MMR.

So if i open a new team, my TR is at 0, while my MMR is still at above 2k. So if i fight, i will get enemies with high MMR too. At the end of the game, i get many points, and lose none, since my TR is very, very low compared to the MMR of the enemy team.

And it is not possible to exploit this in any way. The only teams that get many points are teams with a very low TR who play their way up to their MMR. Once you reach your MMR, you wind and lose normal points. This system needs to be in place, because if you always would gain or lose points according to your MMR, it would be impossible to ever get a new team to higher ratings.

MMR places you at a rating where you win and loose 50 % of the time. The system makes it so you can climb with your actual rating to that mmr (matchmaking value) in the minimum amount of time. Therefore that team obviously just started and is currently climbing rating wise to match their mmr. This is the reason why they are getting so many points.
