We killed boss faster than another guild did it, why the other guild ranked higher?

You killed the boss in the same day (or week for bosses ranked by lockout) which means you got the same amount of points.
Ranking by points means your position depends on your points, not kill time. Previous tier points will be used for sorting in this case.

So example

On day one Wraith kills 11/12 bosses.

On day two Irae AoD kills 11/12 bosses.

Then Irae AoD kills lich king first, and after them is wraith

Irae AoD gets more points, cuz they progressed faster.
