Why are we playing semantics over the words Alpha and Beta? Yes, the pages say Beta. Does a F&F Alpha really last long enough to justify separation? They're likely going to use the same pages etc in one month's time.

Because if you start calling it beta in public, thousands of people who can't think more than half a second will give away their login and password to the first mail asking for it.

Basically, everything says Beta, but he doesn't want people to freak out about it until there's an announcement.

I am really disappointed by this. Blizzard is always taking far too long with releasing anything. So much for trying to release an expansion each year, even two years is hard for Blizzard. How is Blizzard expecting people to stay subscribed for many more months to come with no real content to speak off? I can't see Cataclysm coming out any sooner than November.

Such replies are bad, yes we're all impatient to play Cata, especially myself.

But we must remmber making games take time and if they rush this expansion, we're gonna have an other bad Xpack, ok Wotlk wasn't horrible but srly pvp sucked balls gg. Anyway lets all be patient and let blizz work there magic in peace, D

Can anyone clarify please? Is this a beta or alpha test?

It's an alpha, it's friends and family (and media and whoever else the devs feel like) only, and probably comes with a non-disclosure-agreement. Which won't stop leaked screenshots in the slightest. But for now, they'll be testing new mechanics and making sure there's no funny holes in the world you can fall through. It's VERY early days yet.

Also, as others have pointed out, it's better to call it an alpha to stop people getting scammed.
