Early in vanilla the mobs in Silithus didn't drop any loot, but they gave great XP for that final push from 55-60, so my rl friend the soon-to-be Banana Boyz raider spent a lot of time down there just grinding mobs for nothing but XP. With no-one around and iirc, no flightpath in the zone until they added the now-defunct one right at the entrance from Un'Goro. So it was pretty tranquilos and just straight-up grinding business while it lasted.

Speaking of which - the little NE (?) outpost at the entrance to Silithus from UG used to be a flightpath!

Do you remember when you could get "Dishonorable Kills" by killing civilian guards ? Doing so could reduce your rank. Loved to stand on a roof in Darkshier shooting on lowbies, waiting for them to come with their main or to get help by other lv 60s. Was so fun to see them attempting getting up on the roof LOOL ! Reading this thread wakes up nostalgic feelings, Really miss Vanilla.. <3

Back in vanilla, That hunters tended to not use their pet in raids or instances as the horrible pathing had a tendency to cause wipes, also they did so bad damage that hunters just did not bother

I think this is one of the most awesome threads I've ever read
So much work put into collecting it all, nicely done!

I have something to add to it!

Before you could use a script
    /script SetDungeonDifficulty(3)

It would set your dungeon difficulty to Epic (with message in chat)
Normal would be difficulty 1, heroic 2, and 3 maybe something they planned, but later scrapped.
I've seen quotes from blues, that they are/were thinking about adding more dungeon difficulties.

I used to do it to confuse people in parties, which was allways fun

Actually, UBRS and BRS all together was stripped down to 10-man well-before TBC. If I'm not mistaken, the change went through with patch 1.10, released nearly two years before TBC was launched.

Hmm, I said that UBRS and some other instances were for 15 players or whatever, and they later got reduced to 5 player, except UBRS which got reduced to 10 player (it is probably 5 player right now I guess, haven't done it yet).

Back in vanilla WoW, you didnt get grouped automaticly when you joined a battleground. A lot of people decided to simply stay out of the battleground group because they would earn more honor that way. Sometimes a battleground could have multiple small groups in it.

Hunter traps used to rely on spell hit which made life a pain.

Didn't mages have to cast a spell to see the debuffs the bosses had? I had the spell in my mind, but by the time I got to MMO-Champion I forgot about it.

Detect Magic iirc. They also had Amplify Magic.

Haven't read the whole thread so dunno if this was added along the way: There used to be a respec bug back in vanilla whereby if you went and did a respec and when you're about to click to accept the cost, click it and alt + f4 straight away. You ended up not actually paying - this was good fun and I don't think that many people knew about it as it took them ages to patch it.

To the person above we had Dampen Magic aswell... they weren't removed that long ago though. We also had a good ignite, got screenshots of ignites from back in vanilla that I couldn't achieve even now if I tried. Could maybe get combustion numbers "closer" to it.

EDIT: I also remember making a post on the forums begging blizzard to either add some kind of stat to increase spell power or make intellect do it as it wasn't fair that melee dps has stats that increase their damage along with their bullshit weapons while mages had just crit. This was generally greeted with "You get intellect so you can cast more spells." This attitude was pretty much the norm untill later on when they started adding "spell power" gear.

''Druids couldn't shapeshift to break out of polymorph''

Really? So they brought it back for Cataclysm?
