    Helpful guide OC

    First off I didn't write this guide.
    Secondly this is mainly focusing the I series from intel.
    Lastly I don't recommend OC on stock cooling system or for anyone unfamiliar with their computers BIOS features.
    Also this isn't "THE" guide just a helpful one IMO. Covers most of the basics.
    I posted it in another thread but just in case I'll post it here.
    OEM or Brand name computers usually "Lock" their processors so it may not be possible for you.

    I skimmed through the guide down to the VTT section. The guide says:

    I’ve used up to 1.70V on an i7 920, and up to 1.55V with my i5 750 with extreme cooling.
    This guide has just suggested that people fry their i5 750. Intel specifically states that an i5 750 has an absolute maximum of 1.21v VTT.

    Dude, I hate to correct you, but you're probably not reading this all the way through. That guide is perfect to the T, their vtt suggestions for air, water are right on the money.

    If you read it again, they state those VTT's are for extreme cooling only. Like Phase and LN2, which are perfectly acceptable for those applications. That guide caters more to the extremist, but does give guidance to the novice.

    So you would pump 0.34v over maximum recommendation? The max recommendation isn't because of heat. It's there because it's the most the chip's memory controller can handle. Intel was very lax on other voltages, vCore for instance, but was very implicit regarding the VTT maximum. When the i5's first released, many overclocking sites fried them thinking that the VTT limit was the same as the i7's. You don't push more voltage just because you have more cooling.

    yes, I've actually done this to a phased i7 920.

    you take the chance when you overclock any cpu. I'm not saying the guide is flawless, but it does present some pretty good information. I'm not some newbie pc building enthusiast. I do not recommend going past intel or amd's recomendations if you're new to this.

    Maybe this is a silly question, but is 1.35V really safe for an i5-750? I ran across this Anandtech thread stating the Lynnfield max is 1.21v VTT, while the older Bloomsfield is 1.35v VTT. I'm completely new to overclocking so I just want to make sure I'm as informed as possible and don't make any major mistakes. Thanks!

    The Vtt suggested by Intel is way off. Additionally, in order to run a larger ammount of RAM, you will need to up your Vtt. Call your RAM manufactuerer and they should clear this up for you. I run my i7 860 at 1.41V Vtt. If I am overclocking at 4GHz anything less than 1.25V will BSOD on me and anything less than 1.2 won't even boot.

    Also when he said that "I’ve used up to 1.70V on an i7 920, and up to 1.55V with my i5 750 with extreme cooling." He says "Extreme cooling"
    He means Liquid nitrogen and hes on an overclocking team who probably burns 100 of chips. He doesn't say "Use 1.55v on air cooling don't worry."

    Any why the arguments its a good guide you won't agree with everything but no one will.

    I run my i5 750 @ 3.8GHz with a 1.9v VTT and a 1.31v vCore. An insanely high VTT isn't needed for stability.

    You think he was running 3.8 on Liquid nitro and that high of a voltage?

    He never suggests in his guide to use that voltage only points out where HE did with EXTREME cooling probably to reach some insane OC. Basically just pointing out that it can be done but never recommended it.
