i was sad when i read they are removing talent trees (depth), but i could accept it.

But forcing you into one tree for 70 levels?

    wtf blizzard seriously?

i really, really, really hope they go back on this.

Levelling is my favourite part of the game by a mile, and it looks like they've just said 'we are going to give you more choice by.... not letting you choose.' i loved levelling in warcraft because i could pick whatever random talents i wanted to make my person the best they could be at solo'ing random crap or massive groups of mobs. Mixing and matching different trees while levelling was the whole fun and strategy of levelling. Now we're limited to one and yet we're meant to have more choice?

Dont get me wrong, i love the fact blizz are trying to destroy 'cookie-cutter' builds, and i hate the way there is a best way and the rest, so i like the way they are changins talent points into playstyle related rather than direct stats (crit rating % increase, for example... as its always ALWAYS chosen lol) and i also understand if we have to then lose a few talents (although less than one talent a level makes me quite sad too, as that to me was the excitement of reaching the next level) but forcing us into certain trees for the whole levelling process sounds very very limited.

My brain hurts so much at this point in time.

This makes me wish they would bring back Path of the Titans to add even more customization and tie it into talents into some way. Id imagine they could make it even better and add more "fun" the way it sounds like talents are going to be now.

  8. #468
each major implementation brings wow closer to warhammer, aoc and other mainstream MMOs, and further from being its own unique game. for the record, i think this talent redo is a good thing.

  9. #469
wow, was surprised when I read "To resolve this, we're reducing each tree to 31-point talents." I really like the idea and tbh I think it will be a success.

Hehe, big change. Blizzard are going to be tweaking for ages. I'm doubting even more that this'll be out in Nov '10

I like most of these, but some I think are wrong.
Hunter BM will be Bestial Wrath, it's the trademark Hunter skill, with Beast Mastery staying as the top end talent.

Holy Priests will get Circle of Healing, it's the signature move of the spec (IMO) Disc will be for better single target heals, with holy specialised for AoE.

Prot Pallies will get Holy Shield, Prot Pallies have been the 'Block Tank' for a while now, and HS fits in with that idea, plus ShoR is a trained move and should stay as such.

plus you seem to have totally forgetten DK's :P so I'm gunna say there's will be
Frost: possibly either Deathchill, or Howling Blast. not sure about this one, Deathchill is a little myeh, but HB is a little too high in the tree to be given away as a starter move

Blood: Heart Strike. it's their bread and butter attack, plus will be needed for Tanking now it's turned into a HoTR/CL style move.

Unholy: Master of Ghouls. Come on, what else could it be Unholy is all about the Ghoul, and this turns your 'raised ghoul of blah' into a pet, you wouldn't be Unholy without it.

Specialization-defining abilities that are unlocked (e.g. Mutilate, Penance, Water Elemental and Mortal Strike) will scale based on a character's level and reflect an appropriate amount of damage, healing, and mitigation, etc. With the proper balancing, having these abilities at level 10 won't trivialize the leveling experience, but instead enhance it by allowing players to incorporate unique spells and skills that highlight their specialization into their rotations at a much earlier level.

We'll be closely monitoring how these new talent changes affect gameplay in the beta and will make adjustments to the system if necessary to ensure that our original goals are met. If you have any topics for discussion in the meantime, though, feel free to join your fellow posters in the main announcement thread here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...26290449&sid=1 "

DKs don't even need this system.

By the time you leave the DK starting zone, you have 40+ talent points (which will obviously scale down) to work with :P

You can get all the cool talents off the bat anyhow. In just 6 more levels from when you make your character, you already have your 51 point talent if you desire.

I must say these changes are among the most exciting in this expansion for me. Specs will feel more like sub-classes this way, one of the things I always wanted for this game. Very excited!

The new trees are going to make or break whether I get excited enough to resubscribe to wow after the expansion releases or if I just move on for good to other things like FFXIV. Let's hope that it's fresh and well put together.

I personally LOVE the idea, cause just this morning I was prepping a POST for the WoW Suggestion forum about something very similiar. Less talents, and stats that change based on a characters role.

oh.. Hi MMO Champ! been reading for months, but this is my first POST! Love this place!
Welcome to the forums... Always happy to see people that can post intelligibly.

OT: For anybody that is against this, lets look at it this way... When you log into your 80, right after the patch that changes this, you will have the exact same number of buttons as now. (Possibly a few extra,

especially if your a healer). As an 80, you will likely feel almost no difference from this change. Sure, you'll have less talents overall, but all your abilities are intact, your stats are basically the same, and you

can do all the same things you could do before. (READ- as close to the same as possible for a pre x-pac patch)

Now hit an alt, say level 27 or so. Better hit the trainer, buddy! That toon has a whole new slew of abilities, based on whatever role you choose. We'll call that a win.

For the people who love the early hybrid specs, yeah, you guys kind of get the shaft. On the bright side, the fact that you gain a ton of new abilities at those low levels might just make us all forget about the

epic 5/5/5 build we were trying on the "Other Server".

This could be great for the game, lets just wait and see before calling foul.

  19. #479
the way they're pretty much overhauling the entire game...makes starting fresh with a new account sound more appealing. want to just have 1 main again and worry about gearing him. having 3-10 alts takes way too much time to be concerned with gearing.

  20. #480
I think blizzard has a head who is VERY naive.... No matter what they do, no matter how they do it, no matter what system they figure, and no matter what talents they put, there will ALWAYS be ONE talent build which is better than the rest. ALWAYS.

I don't really understand all of these changes to try and avoid a talent build being better than the rest... it's impossible.
